Double Submitting Comments

This isn't about double posts but double posts inside a post. Or something like that, MI.

Sometimes inside a thread someone will hit submit twice by accident and it results in a repeated post.

My question is; do people here prefer if people apologized for their repeat post (but thus adds another block of text) or do we all assume that the error was totally unintentional and that the perpetrator of the error feels due remorse and embarasement for the due length of time and as such has no need to apologize for their error?

Sorry if this is a repeat post, but results overwhelming refer to different users re-posting an FPP that has previously been posted (and if so I will feel my due remorse and embarasement for the due length of time).

I think it's noise. But apparently a lot of people find spelling corrections and apologies to be valuable contributions to the site, so I imagine you'll get a herd saying the same here.

I guess it doesn't really matter what people here prefer, PurplePorpoise. Since not everyone reads MetaTalk, even if in this thread we did agree on what we do or do not prefer, the people that never read the thread will continue to do whatever it is that they do.

What do you prefer?

There was a member not that long ago who kept adding comments to correct his spelling mistakes so that one comment would turn into five. That got old very quickly.

I've found that Matt and Jessamyn are really pretty amazingly quick about deleting the accidental second postings if you flag them.

Maybe it would be a good idea to add "accidental comment" to the list of flags?

The fact that I have to scroll another 1/8 of an inch only to see someone's apology for a previous spelling/posting transgression, irks me to no end. It puts unneccessary load on the servers and takes up valuable time that I could be otherwise using to post useless shit like what I'm writing here.

If you flag your own double posted comment as a double post, we'll usually see it and just remove the extra one.

Can I just use this as a place to air my annoyance with people in askme always saying "My google-fu is failing me"? I mean isn't it understood that if you're asking something, then you've already looked elsewhere and not found what you needed?

Maybe I'm just cranky.

Naw, it's understood that if you're asking something, then you were supposed to have looked elsewhere and not found what you needed. Pointing out that you googled is stating that you actually did do what you were supposed to do, which is something that can't be taken for granted.

What if instead of begging a lack of google-fu, people link to the various google search term(s) with operators that they tried.

It would encourage people who found answers through the awesomeness of their google-fu to additionally educate the foo-less in how to enstrengthen their fu?

Technically and quibblingly, it's a double comment, not a double post. The post is that initial submission which starts the thread. Submissions attached to it are comments. The post and the comments together are a thread.

I do recognize that there is some overlapping use of posts, comments, submissions, etc., but I try to keep them distinct.
