The Portland with the hotties, duh.

No no, jon. That thing on my head was a banger which was worn in symbolic love for the divine one. Seriously.

Oh, wow... that looks like such fun!

So how many neofites did you end up nabbing us?

aw, jeez. I just moved to PDX a couple months ago and have been searching & waiting for a meetup announcement.. I can't believe I missed it!
well, hopefully, next time!

taz: Possibly two, if Miles and Steve go through with it. We thought we had 'Alex' in the bag, and as it turns out, he already went through with it.

Goddam Alan. Goddam butt-stinky Alan.
posted by cortex at 9:19 AM on November 13, 2005

Alan's a huckster, a screever, a cutpurse, a flimp and a debaser of all that is good and righteous.
posted by cmonkey at 9:37 AM on November 13, 2005

Miles reads Metafilter obsessively, but hates paypal. We were hoping for a #1 appearance so the fiver could be delivered by hand.
posted by togdon at 10:01 AM on November 13, 2005

I think he should be able to compromise his principles this one time. For the greater good, you know.
posted by rebirtha at 10:14 AM on November 13, 2005

Indeed. Hey, how long'd you two keep drinkin' after we all bailed?
posted by cortex at 10:27 AM on November 13, 2005

I don't think I even managed to finish half of one more beer.
posted by rebirtha at 10:32 AM on November 13, 2005

Man. I was hoping more for something like "they threw us out, the fuckers. So we went to the Hotcake House and cmonkey lit his stubble on fire."
posted by cortex at 10:42 AM on November 13, 2005

Next time, let's go to the Hotcake House and set Alan on fire. After we all get blow jobs of course.
posted by DeepFriedTwinkies at 10:48 AM on November 13, 2005

After? While!

We'll detooth him first to avoid any chomping issues.

Mullingitover, you were missed!

I can't believe I slept though the meetup! I got out of bed at 4:30 pm and had a feeling I was forgetting something. I didn't actually realize I had missed it until I saw this thread. *sigh*. Next time.

I did, dreamghost as well, but no one took a photo of it :(

Looks like you guys had fun! I, too, have a tattoo.

Sadly, circumstances beyond my control prevented me from joining you.

Now, get to work. The NYC meetup thread has a lot more comments than this one, and THAT'S NOT RIGHT.
posted by frykitty at 2:19 PM on November 13, 2005

See, as a non-inked non-pierced (a rarity in my demographic, I realize), I would stick out like a sore thumb in Portland. I'll stay here in NYC where I blend in.

Speaking of tattoos...

posted by cmonkey at 2:27 PM on November 13, 2005

He's transfered the front cover of my 9th grade looseleaf binder onto his back, clever bastard!
posted by jonmc at 2:30 PM on November 13, 2005

Except your binder cover probably spelled Randy Rhoads correctly.

What bar is that? I might have been around, but I missed the planning thread. Next time, perhaps.

Market Street Pub. After spirited discussion, it was deemed the least offensive of possible choices.
posted by rebirtha at 4:28 PM on November 13, 2005

From the (with loving apologies to New Bad Things) "This Town Is Too Damned Small" file: Standing outside my apartment smoking a cigarette late this afternoon, two people exit the building and one of them goes, "Are you b!X?"

The sort of question like to make one's brain short-circuit as it tries to process both there being no particular reason why someone walking out of the building would know this and the simple fact that it's happening anyway.

Lo and behold, long story not-so-short, it's yodelingisfun, with whom I once worked a cell phone customer service gig.

Go figure.

I still have your Elliott Smith CD and am willing to return it at any time. It's only been 5 years or so...

Oh yeah and you forgot to say how great it was to see me :|
posted by yodelingisfun at 5:22 PM on November 13, 2005

Are we having this conversation from different floors of the same building?
posted by theonetruebix at 5:26 PM on November 13, 2005

No, too bad though that would rule. No my even older as in known longer) friend lives there and I was just visiting for but a moment.
posted by yodelingisfun at 5:28 PM on November 13, 2005

Dang, too bad signups are paypal only; I hope Miles figures out a way to get in here! In addition, I like the visible beer cloud hovering over all of you; it casts such a friendly and flattering glow.

(eep, sorry to interrupt the reunion. Carry on.)

posted by yodelingisfun at 5:38 PM on November 13, 2005

No one knows if it really was alan. It's possible that it was an imposter pretending to be alan pretending to be "Alex" pretending to not know the joys and tribulations of tubgirl.

Crap, it looks like we're falling off the front page. It was great meeting you all and thanks for not lynching me once I was found out :)

Seeing as we live in the largest most unfriendly town in America, I'm sure we'll never see each other again.
posted by alana at 8:42 PM on November 13, 2005

You're quite right, Alan. Maybe we should arrange to meet again before May. You can pretend to be some other man-off-the-street next time. Thanks, everyone- I had a great time. Em dashes for all!

Post on behalf of Lipstick Thespian aka Steve:

"Hello, Portland! (sound of concert feedback) Lipstick Thespian here to say you're all completely f*cked. In the best way, of course, seeing as Alanalex gives good skeeve. Whatever "skeeve" is - evdiently, he's good at it and sometimes we all need a little quality "skeeve". Just own it.

Stuff I'll remember on my deathbed from the "meet-up":
a. Binary code tattoo!
b. Betty Grable tattoo!
c. the group mix of hideous 70's rock that actually turned out to be kickass and definitely should be sent to me as another "just cough up the five bucks, ya ass!" incentive to join your sick cult.

Seriously, though, I wish I had an army of youse guys. Glad to know ya.
- Lipstick Thespian, aka Steve, friend to Matildaben, aka Hurricane Kathleena"

Thanks for the shoutouts. Mmmmwah!

I finally remember to check out MeTa and look at the meetups and I see that Portland just had one *pout*

Not that I'm in Portland (I'm in Eugene) but I would have tried to make it up anyway. Looks like a grand time was had by all, so I will try to be more watchful in the future and ferry southern valley mefites up for the next shindig.

If anyone is still watching this thread, the 1970's mix CD that folks came up with at the meetup is finally compiled, has cover art, and is available on this MetaChat thread.
posted by matildaben at 9:24 AM on December 5, 2005

Wow...that's quite a mix. Love the cover art.

Just for fun, I hereby dub this the Portland Cult Thread, where Portlanders chat until it is closed.

Of course, this will no doubt be the last comment in the thread, because no one is paying attention.

I kinda want another meetup now. I'll even attend. Maybe.
