Any NYCers up for Happy Hour? I'm leaving in a half hour.

I know its short...virtually no notice buy hey, if two people show up that's bigger than meetups in other states.

Got a place in mind? I have all sorts of crap I want to procrastinate doing.

I just suggested Revival again on MeCha. What about that place you suggested on the West Side last time?
posted by Lola_G at 1:38 PM on December 9, 2005

Oooo, dissing the rest of the country- I like it!

I might make an appearance depending on where we're going... I'm in the Union Square area. But I also really need to do some shopping, since tomorrow I'm showing my apartment all freakin' day.
posted by ThePinkSuperhero at 1:38 PM on December 9, 2005 [1 favorite]

Hey, let's do Revival! Just because it's right near here :-P

Okay, I can be there around 5:30. Is that cool with you guys or will I be drinking alone for awhile?
posted by Lola_G at 1:41 PM on December 9, 2005

I will probably be there closer to 6.

I'm sitting around at home not doing all the millions of things that need getting done. I'll come meet you!

But don't let me stay long! I have lots of shopping to do, and I don't want to spend forever doing it.

Tis cool, Lola, at least I'll be prepared.

Yep, I'll be there. Just after 6, assuming no bus/subway stops.
posted by gaspode at 1:49 PM on December 9, 2005

Anyone want to come to a happy hour at my house? I'm right down the road in Minneapolis.

I have a bottle of bourbon and half a bottle of cab. Call for directions.

I'm going to try and impose a three drink limit. I expect to arrive at 5:30. So, like...ummm...15 minutes?

Seriously though, eight???? (That's with the best intentions so do with that what you will.)

With all these spur-of-the-moment meetups, we'll never be prepared enough to keep up the pressure on DaShiv. I need, like laser eye surgery and stuff.

Don't forget we are still talking about mid-january.

If I were still in NYC I'd be there like a shot (and have several shots). Enjoy!

From those of us in "no meet up land". We hate it and won't suck it.

Net meet-ups are freaky. People you thought were cool turn out to be grade A weirdos and the girls you dismiss as irrelevent are the Most Beautiful Person You've Ever Met (for now).

movilla: "Net meet-ups are freaky. People you thought were cool turn out to be grade A weirdos and the girls you dismiss as irrelevent are the Most Beautiful Person You've Ever Met (for now)."

I can't think of a single "grade A weirdo" that I've met at a meetup. I can think of several of the latter, though. Does that mean I'm That Guy?
posted by Plutor at 5:12 PM on December 9, 2005

Plutor: Just don't stare too obviously at the girls and you'll get away with it. Your hobbies are not trains, frogger or unix. I repeat, not unix. You're a freelance artist and entrepreneur. Good luck!
posted by movilla at 5:24 PM on December 9, 2005

Haha, that's how I thought meetups would be, movilla, but I've been pleasantly surprised- everyone is lovely.

I just got back- Lola_G, CunningLinguist, dame, Afroblanco, amberglow, hellbient, gaspode and I had a lovely time (if others showed, it was after I left- I was only there for an hour). I took about 4 pictures with hellbient's camera, including my shoutouts propped up next to my drained Cosmo glass.

Well done, TPS. Can you show the pics. Extra points for mistletoe.
posted by movilla at 5:48 PM on December 9, 2005

Haha, well hellbient has the pictures on his camera, and he probably has a life (unlike me), so we are all at his mercy. Let us give him the death stare until he complies with our wishes!

Yeah, hellbient went to see the Johnny Cash movie, so no pics for a while. Now I'm gonna watch my MASH DVDs and go to bed early. Cause you all know what I gots to do tomorrow morning.

Did you buy anything pretty?
posted by dame at 7:26 PM on December 9, 2005

No, I did not. I get excited about going shopping, and then I get to stores and am like, ugh, none of this is what I wanted. I only went to American Eagle, tried on some jeans, I didn't love any, so I bought nothing and came home. Tomorrow, I'm gonna go to a lot more stores, because dadblabbit, I want to buy things!! Here I am, capitalism, take me for all I'm worth.

And why do I always look fat? I am so not fat. And no one will ever know.

You are not fat, and you do not look fat, lady! You are beautiful.

And esch, I'm sorry for no shoutout- I actually thought about it on my way home on the subway :-( Next time! ::adds esch to Shoutouts for Next Meetup list::

unknowncommand: "that is the sneakiest plutor shoutout."

Hah, I'm dying here. Thank you a million for pointing that out. If I'd received a real shoutout simply as a result of my tongue-in-cheek demand, I would have felt guilty. But a photoshopped graffiti I can live with—nay, be honored by.

And in such an awesome photo, too..
posted by Plutor at 1:57 PM on December 11, 2005

That's real graffiti. How do I know? Because I sprayed it. Want to hear another secret? "I REALLY REALLY HATE" is cropped out.

The last one was deleted as noise. So the answer is: as many times as it takes.
