I'm sorry, this is not a tourist site. October 6, 2001 3:35 AM   Subscribe

Good Morning. Two front page posts, both "Best of City" sites. One with an ulitmatum. The other saying that Oklahoma City needs a front page post just as much as New York.

The Best of New York thread this is based on seemed appropriate. It was certainly chockful of links and provided a welcome diversion. Really, it was more about NY still functioning after 9-11. As for Oklahoma City and St. Paul, I'm sorry, this is not a tourist site.

was wondering about this myself. look more closely at the links he's posted: they're not tourist sites at all. nothing but advertising.

i guess, if nothing else, he's complying to new yorkers' requests (as written in some NYtimes op-ed) to "stop being nice already." but it's a lousy post nonetheless.

The New York post certainly seemed to be more of an advertisment post than anything else. I have not checked the other two and probably will not.

Nice. He/she's just hastened the day we come here and find a 404 page. Pissing on the guy that busts his ass to keep this zoo running (while he's stressing about finding work) is unbelievably ill-mannered. Ingrate.

ttrendel seems to have had posted some good links before. I'm guessing these two were just a hiccup. But they should definitely go.

If you look at ttrendel's metatalk contributions, s/he almost seems to have two distinct personalities. S/He's like a troll with a conscience. Then, I happened upon this little bit of info, from a MeTa comment found here. And I quote:
I registered for two reasons-
1.) to make a comment on a thread on something I had a personal stake in a while ago
and
2.) to have something to do when I got home from the bars and had nothing better to do.

Now, if we take a look at the times that the two offending threads were posted (3:00 and 3:07 am), and we assume that ttrendel lives in the Pacific Time Zone, then I think we can safely conclude s/he made these "contributions" after a long night down at the local. Which, to my way of thinking, sort of provides some context for his/her argumentative and baiting tone.

Both links were lame, and the posts weren't discussion material. They would be better at home on someone's personal site.

Also be aware that on Sept 12, ttrendel said his/her father had died in the blast in New York. Assuming this is true, my thoughts are with ttrendel. Assuming this is false, it's just another sketchy detail in an overall sketchy portrait of semi-troll ttrendel.

ttrendel recanted that claim about his father's death on Sept. 21.

Oops, I hadn't read that. Pretty weird either way.

I guess I'm the one to blame in this situation. The point that I was trying to make (even though the methods I employed were wrong) is to point out the media bias of regionalism. Enough said on that.

I apologize for this. Optamystic hit the nail on the head.

Let me explain. I'm a Comp. Sci./ Phil. major at Indiana University in Bloomington Indiana. My hometown of Columbus Indiana is a mere 30 miles away. Before coming to IU, I served in the military for 4 years. I'm an alcoholic. This is most likely the first saturday night I have spent sober in nearly eight years. This is also the first day in 70 that I have not had at least a 12-pack or a fifth of whiskey or tequila. I also attended my first AA meeing tonight.

I am stupid. I am stupid for letting myself succumb to the endless cycle -depression begets drinking, drinking begets even more depression, and so on. I have wasted the last 4 years of my life as a drunk.

This is not meant as an excuse, but an explanation. Looking through the posts I have made, I am ashamed. When I am sober, I like to think that I am courteous and thoughtful. When drunk, I'm an asshole. I know I am. Certain troll posts in the past were me at my asshole best. I apologize for them.

This community means alot to me. Strangely enough, this thread has made the repercussions of my habits more clear than anything else. This is gonna sound really dumb, but here goes---- MeFi is a community. I've been too busy getting drunk to take part in any physical communities. I feel personal connections with many of you even though we've never spoken.

Most of all, I apologize to you Matt. I hope you weren't offended and accept an apology.

And lastly, my PSA: Alcohol is a drug. It is a drug that made me miss several years of my life (it was all my fault, too). If there is anyone out there that has battled alcohol addiction, please e-mail me. I need to know that the battle can be won.

(I sincerely hope that this is taken as legit. I've posted alot od B.S. in the past and ask you to look past that. If you can't, I understand completely.)

I just realized that my last post seemed like I was looking for sympathy. I'm not. I did this to myself and will hopefully become stronger because of it. I just posted this to explain my erratic behavior and apologize to those that I have offended. Even though there is no excuse for my behavior, I apologize.

Congratulations on getting sober, ttrendel, and good luck on staying that way. It's good to be sober.

If there is anyone out there that has battled alcohol addiction, please e-mail me. I need to know that the battle can be won.

I haven't stopped drinking, but I have stopped some very nasty chemical habits in the past. The only one that I care to mention in a public forum is smoking, but there have been others. The battle can be won - it's truly not as monumental a task to clean up as people would have you believe. Don't believe the hype. Decide what you want, and do it. That's all that's necessary.

Good luck.

Well ttrendel, you aren't running short on courage. Your response was dignified, intelligent, and (to me) not at all an attempt to seek sympathy.

Just...don't be too hard on yourself.

Good luck from me also.

Good on you, ttrendel. But then again I enjoyed your posts until you pointed them out. And, looking back, still do. Take lucien's advice and hang in there! Wherever you are ou want to be is what I meant to say; not some moral BS about recovering. You seem to be fine as you are now.
