The menu bar is wacked in Firefox under 10.2. Screenshot inside.

It looks fine in Firefox 1.5 running in 10.4.3. Then again, it seems to do entirely with your firefox window width. When you narrow the Firefox window the search bar pushes against the links on the menu bar.

"You are logged in
as: thirteen / logout"

...

And birdherder seems to be right -- I can reproduce that layout issue by reducing my browser window width to sufficiently (scandalously?) small size. "My Profile" dips right under the search box and all is fucked.

Does, uh, your problem go away with a wider window?

Same on Windows.

It happens for me in 10.4.3 as well, but goes away when I make resize the window.

You magnificent bastard. I wouldn't have guessed. How many efts are here wearing sockpuppets?

I'm not following the thirteen thing. huh?

I photoshopped "thirteen" in as a joke. I am not him. In fact, jessamyn knows him personally so I rushed over here to get this corrected as soon as I found that out. Otherwise I would have let you believe it for a while. To reiterate: I am not thirteen, I am just some asshole with a copy of photoshop.

shmegegge- I had originally photoshopped the shot to say that I was logged in as "thirteen" to make it look like we were the same guy. But that undermines both of our credibility and was bad to do. Even as a joke.

But I am an asshole who likes to read in a narrow column to keep my browsing on the QT. So I miss the scrollbars a lot.

To reiterate: I am not thirteen

Odd joke. But I admit, your style of speech is very different from his, so it's easier to believe you're not than that you are. And the sockpuppet thing isn't (I misspoke), if someone relinquishes an old identity in favour of a new one, rather than using both at the same time, so no harm either way.

Confirmed by the way on Firefox/IE on XP as well -- go under 1024x768 browser realestate, and the menu bar gets goofed up. I assume quite a few users here are still at 800x600 (and maybe even a few old bastards squinting at their 640x480 and chasing kids out of their yards), so that's not optimal.

Further: it it happens at exactly 848 pixels width, when the search box hits the word 'Profile'.

you should have photoshopped "dhoyt" in, for fuck's sake.

The My Profile link is new. It's too much. I'd move Post a Thread to the top bar.

If we must have the whole 'My' thing, how come it's not 'My Preferences'?

I saw the thirteens, and thought someone was running some elaborate script that pasted our user names into the comments.

I am feeling very special now.

'Tis a float issue. All of the menu stuff are enclosed in floated divs, and compressing the screen horizontally messes up the float. If you get it small enough the date overlaps the search box, even.

Actually the different color menu bars are themselves overlapped divs containing floated elements... it gets pretty weird looking when you compress the page.

ahhh..i'm betting on the Curley=thirteen thing myself...

heh.....how does that go?? "what a tangled web we weave...yada, yada, yada..." :)

Looks like it collapses and adjusts fairly nicely to me. I would, however, say that it probably shouldn't collapse at all until the browser window is less than 760px wide but soon that'll be 950ish with greater resolutions in more often in use.

Yes, I'm getting the same error.

I'm still trying to get my head around:

1. MC posts a tech-support type of MeTa thread, but, before posting, takes the time to photoshop someone else's handle over his own(?!)

2. When called on it, MC claims it was a joke, but then takes the time to change the screenshot to remove the photoshoppery, which sort of defeats the joke.

My guess is that MC is not thirteen, but the main point of the post was the joke, which MC expected to generate much teeth-gnashing about sock puppets, but then decided to abandon because jessamyn became involved.
