I didn't even ask for this pony, but I'll take it!
Same account, two different browsers - my Theme preference isn't respected in both browsers. I like this "feature," so I'm just mentioning it - not requesting a change. [more inside]
Palin thread ate my browser
Pony request: Can we please, please, please, do something to ease the burden of the Palin thread? People obviously want to talk about it and it's become sort of a default election thread. It's got to be killing the servers as well as everyone's browsers.

trying to find an old askme about browser portal thingy
Coulda swore there was an AskMe about a site that would allow you to punch in a URL and see what the site looks likes on different browsers/platforms... but of course I can't find it. Anyone recall this or am I imagining it?
IE 8 update: 1 step forwards 2 steps back 2 steps forwards again.
Update on IE 8 standard support - IE will now render in standards mode by default, without any silly meta tag. [more inside]
Mefi frontpage is blank in Opera 9.23
I'm using Opera (9.23, Windows NT 5.1; U; sv) and all I see at the Metafilter frontpage is nothing at all (image). Mefi works fine in IE. Whatever has caused this, it must have happened during the past 12 hours.
Metafilter sites not working in Firefox
I cannot access any of the metafilter sites when using Firefox. It works in IE (what I am using right now) but in firefox I get an error message page that reads as follows: [more inside]
MetaFilthy hates me
Anyone else getting hit with constant error alerts when using MetaFilthy? I have an "NS_ERR_DOM_INDEX_SIZE_ERR" alert popping up on every thread in FireFox 2.0.0.2, for about the last week or so. (Yes, I reported a bug to the author. Yes, I know he doesn't spend all day every day coding MetaFilthy. I'm just wondering if this is an issue with just me, with a Metafilter re-code of some sort, or problems between MetaFilthy and FF 2.0.0.2.)
Favorites for Opera?
So I guess favoriting is still broken for Opera. (I posted about this on Oct 25th). I dunno if Matt intends to support this feature on Opera or not, but I thought I'd prod anyway to see if the answer might be yes. (Please!)
Yeah, yeah, I'll switch to Firefox, it just crimps my browsing style. It's just not my... favorite.

Safari Problem
Text fields are rendering oddly in Safari for me...
Opera Layout
Layout on ask.me, the blue and the grey all seem to be a little messed up on Opera 8.51 since last night. All the content is showing up beneath the side blog boxes (on the blue.)
Safari crashing
Something is causing my Safari 2.0.2 on Mac OS X 10.4.3 to crash after I've typed three or four characters into the "post comment" textarea on any MeFi site.
It doesn't happen with the "Post a thread" textarea, as evidenced by this post...

Opera Bugs
Opera Post Bug Redux? I swear this was a single post. Here's what I think I did: Typed stuff; hit Preview (to work around the Opera submission bug); hit submit. (Haven't tried to recreate, because I don't want to mess up the thread with more extraneous stuff.)
Firefox and New Tabs
I have my preferences set to open links in a new window, but this should only apply to external links right? When I click [!] on a post, the flag form appears in the same tab (using Firefox obviously, on Windows), but when I hit the "Flag this post" button on the form, the result (including the redirect back to the thread) opens a new tab. I've noticed other situations too where internal metafilter links open in a new tab. Minor, but an annoyance of note.
Spellcheck Bug
Malicious Insects: Starting today, as soon as I click Spell Check when posting a comment with Firefox (version 1.03 in Fedora Core 3) my browser immediately crashes. This didn't occur yesterday or previously in the same environment. Also, doesn't happen on my Windows XP machine with Firefox 1.03.
Now that I think about it since I'm on Fedora Core 3 instead of Windows or a Mac, I'll probably just have to live with it.

Something's odd with my question thread.
Something's odd with my question thread. Here's what the bottom of the page looks like in Safari and Firefox. I reset Safari and I'm still getting the same thing.
How do I work this Firefox-thingy again?
Could there be a customization option for Firefox users to have links open in a new tab?
Hitting back erases question preview
When you're previewing a question in AskMeFi, it tells you to hit back on your browser to tweak the question. When you do, the initial text you wrote no longer appears in the box. (Or is this just me?)

Firefox Bug
IE6 - opens new links in new window [as it's s'posed to];
Firefox 0.9.1 - doesn't.
I take it that's a FF bug, not a Mefi one?

FPPs as unordered lists in html
Matt, could you make the FPPs be unordered lists in the HTML? I want to be able to use the site with elinks in graphical mode. Just about everything else is kickass, and it loads lightning fast, but all the FPPs end up scrunched together and are very difficult to eyeball-parse. I think this would be a Good Thing, not just for links users, but for general browser cross-compatibility.
Can I open all links in new tabs?
Is there a way (currently or hypothetically) to customize my account to open exterior links in a new tab, if I'm using that kind of browser? Just curious.

Opera and Titles
Wierd problem involving Opera 7.1 and the Title tag. The thing don't seem to be showing up, regardless of whether the dhtml toggle is on or off.
Site's cookies not working with Mozilla
I didn't see a link/email for technical issues, so please hate me if I missed it, but cookies/recent versions of Mozilla and metafilter do not seem to be playing together nicely. I get "authorization" from metafilter less than 10% of the time with mozilla 1.3. Anyone else having problems? It's possible I've made things bad for myself, but I have no problems elsewhere (nor have I changed anything since mozilla 1.2...)
Mozilla Issues
is anyone else having problems posting in mozilla? i post, click preview and nothing is there.
text entry keyboard shortcuts don't work in Phoenix 0.5
MetaFilter's super-handy text entry keyboard shortcuts don't work in Phoenix 0.5 (a Mozilla-based browser) on Windows 2000.
White on white mefi
in today's theme, on mozilla 1.0 (sorry, but that's the latest version in debian stable/testing) textareas appear as white on white. i have a general (ie desktop) white on black colour scheme, but mozilla is configured to have a default of black on white. ps my mefi config uses the "other" colour-scheme.
added embedded information about pages viewed
I added embedded information about pages viewed at MetaFilter, per the link tag. If you're using Mozilla, turn on your Site Navigation Bar link this, and you'll see additional buttons when viewing threads, like this. It makes for a nice alternate interface.
Mozilla Disappearing Form
In Mozilla 1.1, when previewing a comment on metafilter, the comment form itself disappears (the text box and buttons). This, of course, means that you can't post a comment with Mozilla 1.1.

2) In the Opera browser the main page, but not metatalk or any of the comments, is blinking and resetting my scroll bars. It does look kinda cool but....

Can't login to MetaTalk
Mozilla 1.0/Windows 98:
Can't login to MetaTalk: get a can't find username/password message.
In MetaFilter: shortcut buttons below comment box (link, etc.) are not there.
Using Mr. Gates' product, things work just fine.

Can't comment
Can't comment on Metafilter prime. Mozilla 1.1b. I get "Comment Preview:" but no comment box. It works in Metatalk however. I eventually had to resort to the evil IE to post a followup comment.
Spell Check has been hanging my browser
Yesterday and today, Spell Check has been hanging my browser (IE 6.0 on Windows 2000). Not every time, but regularly.
doublepost bug bug
Well not a meta bug but an IE5.1/OS 10.1.5 one, and a first for me, I was using IE5.1/OS 9.1, never had the double comment blurb.
This is what changed for me, if I use the browser back button, after hitting post in the previous window, it post's twice, never happened in the earlier system, and I did it a lot (back button)...won't again I hope...but for what it's worth...

Netscape 6.1 bug
Netscape 6.1 bug: using the browser's back button from inside a thread gives you a popup window asking if you want to download a file of type called "text/html, text/html from http://www.metafilter.com". You have to use the "home" button to get back to the front page, and then scroll down to get back to where you were.

Netscape problems
Disappearing comments in Netscape 4.78: when I post a comment to MeFi, it doesn't appear until I force the page to reload. When I post a comment to MeTa, it disappears completely! Obviously, I'm posting this with a different browser.
IE has a huge, gaping hole
IE has a huge, gaping hole that allows executable files to be downloaded and run on the computers of browsers.
Pynnonen revealed that the bug lies in IE's processing of Internet addresses and "header" information that tells the browser what type of file it is handling. The flaw is particularly dangerous because it can be exploited using ordinary Web page code, without help from JavaScript or other scripting programs, he said.
thanks to the wonder of non-disclosure agreements, we won't know the precise nature of the bug (yet), but this one sounds bad.

MetaFilter in IE doesn't allow View Source
I've noticed that MetaFilter in IE doesn't let one "View Source". Is this by design? Given the current state of search it might make sense to allow it. When researching a new link for posting, sometimes its easier just to search for the URL in the source.
MeFi and MeTa should be standards-compliant.
How about a standards-compliant version of MetaFilter or MetaTalk?
Disclaimers: (1) ignominious self-link; (ii) tested in Internet Explorer 5.1 and Netscape 6, should work in all CSS-compliant browsers; (c) guaranteed to look hideous in Netscape 4 et al; (IV) XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS validated by W3C.

Home page cache problem
the past couple of days I have been having a problem when i hit the back button out of a thread, to the home page. It sends me to the home page, but to midway through October 1. The post about depression. It seems sort of random, but it keeps happening to me.
Is this happening to anyone else?

Mefi locks up my browser
I have a p3, 1MHz, Dell Dimension XPS B1000 w/128MB of RAM running win98SE and IE 5.50.4522.1800IC w/128-bit encryption. Every time I got to the Mefi home page it locks up my browser. The page borders begin to load and before any of the content/posts load int he page the brwser just locks up. I have 2 p2 w/celeron machines and an IBM Stinkpad on my home network all running the same version of IE. I've tested the site on those other 3 machines w/no problems. The only machine having the problem is my Dell PC. Has anyone else had this problem? I've updated the browser and everythign else I could think of but the site still locks up my browser. Any help would be appreciated.
Just happened to look at the MeFi source
Just happened to look at the MeFi source and realized that it contains no fewer than ten META tags, all identical expiration directives with a date in 1990. Is this some kind of workaround for a weird browser bug with expiring pages from its cache? If so I'm mildly curious to hear which browser needs ten copies of the tag to take the hint. ;)
Error with the MeFi scholarship link in Opera.
Opera5 shows the "MetaFilter college scholarship" as an off yellow link but it's not clickable. After a quick glance at the HTML it seems Opera doesn't like the negative value, "margin-top:-20px". It looks like there's an unclosed DIV tag around that area too, well, maybe.
