Can we have a usertags page? January 27, 2006 10:09 AM   Subscribe

I really like the "Users that often use this tag:" list on MetaFilter and AskMe, where you can see how often certain users have used a particular tag. Is there any way we could have this tally added to our userpages, or have a "usertags" page a la the "usercontacts" page? That is, when you go to so-and-so's userpage you can see a list of all the tags they've used (like on the Post A Link page) and how many times they've used 'em.

As with my last feature request, I realize there are certainly more important, more popular, and more useful things for you to work on. Just thought it couldn't hurt to ask.

Maybe I can show off the top ten tags used by each person. That could be good.

Heh, the first tag I checked was "music" and I'm on the list of frequent users.

I just added this to the user page. I suppose I could show Ask MeFi tags too.

Publicizing my sordid tag history cannot be a good thing.

These are my top ten AskMe tags:

Top ten tags used on Ask MetaFilter: test (9) apple (5) cars (4) networking (4) accounting (3) baby (3) diy (3) gifts (3) hacks (3) music (3)

I've never asked any questions about any of these topics, but by amazing coincidence, mathowie has.

Whoa, as I reload, things are changing. Perhaps I should not point out bugs until the dev process is done.

Awesome pony, and it's fun to have mathowie's tags on my user page.

Ok, so ask mefi and mefi tags are shown now. Two things:

1. I'm not so sure the display is optimal. I might do a sidebar with tags like they show up on posts. I don't really want to do a cloud visualization.

2. Right now the tags link to a general, all-tags listing for that tag. I might instead do a page of results only from that user, so you could see my five posts about music instead of a whole page of all music posts by everyone.

Awesome pony, Matt, and tag results from each user would make it even better. Thanks!

I like the sidebar idea; it'd fill in the bluespace to the right of the user's basic info. I'm also a fan of the user-specific post listings.

This is pretty cool in any case.

Looks great to me, thanks!

I'd still like to see more than just the top 10, but that would probably require either a separate page like the "usercontacts" page (would that be too much of a server strain?) or yeah, a sidebar. (Which would probably interfere with my gator pic; hoisted by my own petard, alas.)

Tag results for each user would indeed be gravy on the pony.

Results for Anonymous Ask Metafilter: Top ten tags used on Ask MetaFilter posts: sex (88) relationships (57) health (35) work (32) marriage (30) dating (28) relationship (27) depression (23) love (22) career (19).

Cool pony. Thanks, Matt!

I never even thought to check Anonymous. That guy has quite a life.

I feel sorry for mwhybark, who is the only person who frequently uses a tag of "the".

This is an extremely cool pony.

My AskMe tags make for an odd but entirely accurate self-portrait word poem:

food (3) dating (2) music (2) culture (1) cooking (1) conflictofinterest (1) chicken (1) CD (1) career (1) cajun (1)

For come reason this reminds me of that Futurama episode where they reveal Bender's ten most commonly used words:

Chump. Chumpette. Yours. Up. Pimpmobile. Bite. My. Shiny. Daffodil. Ass

I'm going to go tag me a question with Pimpmobile. I like this feature, thanks Matt.
