Anyone else been contacted by an AOL account in relation to "Robby Rob's Metafilter Post", with the sender claiming that he is having his thoughts controlled by the NSA? [more inside]

The message I received (which references Metafilter and my personal site as found in my user profile):

----------------

The National Security Agency already uses the type of brain mapping to read your thoughts
and influence them. They have been using it on me for years. Have included a lawsuit
against the NSA by John St. Clair Akwei for using this technology on him. The US government is just full surpises that it would prefer the American people not know about.

Best of luck in your photog business.

FBI -- The FASCIST Bureau Of Intimidation

The NSA Can Track Any American 24 Hours A Day

The following are excerpts from John St. Clair Akwei's lawsuit against the National Security Agency. The information that John has furnished us with is astounding, and shows that there is no longer any question, that the privacy Americans thought that they had has been destroyed through this covert hi-tech surveillance system.

Signals Intelligence (SIGINT)

"The Signals Intelligence mission of the NSA has evolved into a program of decoding EMF waves in the environment for wirelessly tapping into computers and tracking persons with the electrical currents in their bodies. Signals Intelligence is based on the fact that everything in the environment with an electric current in it has a magnetic flux around it which gives off EMF waves. The NSA/DoD has developed proprietary advanced digital equipment which can remotely analyze all objects whether man-made or organic that have electrical activity."

"The NSA has records on all U.S. citizens. The NSA gathers information on U.S. citizens who might be of interest to any of the over 50,000 NSA agents (HUMINT). These agents are authorized by executive order to spy on anyone. The NSA has a permanent National Security Anti-Terrorist surveillance network in place. This surveillance network is completely disguised and hidden from the public."

"Individual citizens occasionally targeted for surveillance by independently operating NSA personnel. NSA personnel can control the lives of hundreds of thousands of individuals in the U.S. by using the NSA's domestic intelligence network and cover businesses. The operations independently run by them can sometimes go beyond the bounds of law. Long-term control and sabotage of tens of thousands of unwitting citizens by NSA operatives is likely to happen. NSA Domint has the ability to covertly assassinate U.S. citizens or run covert psychological control operations to cause subjects to be diagnosed with ill mental health."

NSA Signals Intelligence Use of EMF Brain Stimulation
"NSA Signals Intelligence uses EMF Brain Stimulation for Remote Neural Monitoring (RNM) and Electronic Brain Link (EBL). EMF Brain Stimulation has been in development since the MKUltra program of the early 1950's, which included neurological research into "radiation" (non-ionizing EMF) and bioelectric research and development. The resulting secret technology is categorized at the National Security Archives as "Radiation Intelligence," defined as "information from unintentionally emanated electromagnetic waves in the environment, not including radioactivity or nuclear detonation."

"Signals Intelligence implemented and kept this technology secret in the same manner as other electronic warfare programs of the U.S. government. The NSA monitors available information about this technology and withholds scientific research from the public. There are also international intelligence agency agreements to keep this technology secret."

"The NSA has proprietary electronic equipment that analyzes electrical activity in humans from a distance. NSA computer-generated brain mapping can continuously monitor all the electrical activity in die brain continuously. The NSA records aid decodes individual brain maps (of hundreds of thousands of persons) for national security purposes. EMF Brain Stimulation is also secretly used by the military for Brain-to-computer link. (In military fighter aircraft, for example.)"

"For electronic surveillance purposes electrical activity in the speech center of the brain can be translated into the subject's verbal thoughts. RNM can send encoded signals to the brain's auditory cortex thus allowing audio communication direct to the brain (bypassing the ears). NSA operatives can use this to covertly debilitate subjects by simulating auditory hallucinations characteristic of paranoid schizophrenia."

To learn more about this information check out the Website below. Americans, due to the unprecedented abuse of your Constitutional Rights by the intelligence community in this country (cia, fbi, nsa) the free society that you think you live in is no longer anything but an illusion. SIMPLY PUT, IT NO LONGER EXISTS. Learn more about what the United States Of America has become, by accessing the following Websites. Your country and your freedoms have been stolen from you by those operating a fascist shadow government within the United States. And the only way to reverse this is to become knowledgable as to what they have done to you, and to take your Government back from George Bush the PNAC and the rest of these FASCIST TRAITORS.

THROUGH THE USE OF ADVANCED PROPRIETARY TECHNOLOGY THE NATIONAL SECURITY AGENCY CAN NOW TRACK ANY AMERICAN BY THE ELECTROMAGNETIC FLUX GIVEN OFF BY THEIR OWN BODIES -- THEY CAN TRACK YOU ANYWHERE

I think I need to participate a lot more, and include a throwaway email address in my profile. That was a lot more entertaining than some comment threads I've read.

PS you guys aren't getting the full impact of the email as I copied the plain text, omitting the many instances where he has enhanced his argument with BOLD TYPE!!! BOLD TYPE I SAY!!

Because when it's in BOLD, it must be TRUE.

PPS I like the signoff, "American Psychotronic Victim", as if there's a support group.

"Hi, my name is Jim, and I'm a mind puppet. No I'm not. Yes, I am. No, I'm not."

they must be pretty crap at mind control if all their victims go and tell everyone else it's happening and set up websites and what have you...though on the other hand maybe that's just what they want you to think...
posted by johnny novak at 3:23 AM on January 31, 2006

Maybe they want you to think that that's just what they want you to think - ever think of that?
posted by Ryvar at 4:06 AM on January 31, 2006

I thought of that, but I think you made me

Usually, egging on the mentally ill is not a good idea. Threads like this are sure to generate more delusions and more e-mails.

It's on Angelfire, so I knew it was going to be good. It's got a very thorough table with Brain Area / Bioelectric Resonance Frequency / Information Induced Through Modulation. Also, a huge list of resources and 'further resources.' There goes the rest of my Tuesday.

I'm always amazed at the consistency of these paranoid theories. It's like there's a specific genetic disease that makes people think the CIA/FBI/NSA are using mind reading/control technology on them. So specific. So consistent. And so fucking looney. It's amazing.
posted by scarabic at 6:45 AM on January 31, 2006

Mid is right.

I'm sorry a schizophrenic picked you to send an email to. Would you like me to transcribe the rantings of the lunatic homeless guy I had to deal with when I walked down the street the other day?
posted by crunchland at 7:01 AM on January 31, 2006

So consistent.

It's true. I get letters like this and they always have the same crazed underlinings, and some words WRITTEN IN BIG RED LETTERS and the same rays-into-my-brain theme, even though they come from different people.

I'd let you all know more about the FnordStarTM mind control MW-emitting satellites but you're not cleared for that information.

That will be all. You may now return to your scheduled snarking.

Of course not, crunch. You can totally paraphrase.

I haven't received any such email, LondonYank, but obviously I don't NEED TO KNOW this the way YOU do. If someone is sending you IMPORTANT EMAILS about the NSA and you ignore them...Then you are discounting IMPORTANT INFORMATION that you DESPERATELY NEED!

Sorry about all the bold and caps--I think my computer and/or brain were taken over by either the NSA or FEMA. I always get the two confused.

Yeah. It's fun to mock a crazy person. Next, we'll be ridiculing the tumors of cancer patients.

crunchland: here's the more earnest version. Why shouldn't you offer a transcription of the rantings of that guy? Why shouldn't we see this e-mail? Hell, if someone has a tumor shaped like Hubert Humphrey, why shouldn't we find that funny?

That doesn't mean you should stick a finger in the homeless guy's face and laugh. It doesn't mean we should find this guy and fill his inbox with refutations. It doesn't mean we should tease the cancer victim.

It's one thing to pin someone in a corner and mock them, to maliciously attack them personally with intent to harm. It's another entirely to comment on and react to the things we see and hear, especially the strange or eye-catching things. I'm sorry if it struck a nerve, but, well, shit. Beautiful and unique snowflakes, and all that: I'm not going to treat any sort of disabled person worse than the next guy, but I'm not going to put them up on a pedastal either.

And I'm sure as hell not going to throw out my copy of Illuminatus! just because there are schizophrenics who might take too much of it at face value. Conspiracy theories are conspiracy theories, goddammit.
