The MFDistilled.com domain expires in a few days. Anyone have a problem with that?

I started that site long ago as a thinly veiled attempt to focus on what I thought MetaFilter should be, and perhaps, through some miracle, steer it in that direction. I also thought it would be a cool one-stop-shop for all things MetaFilter. But it was very sparsely used. And since I was usually the only one posting anything, it was basically just mine own monkey spankage.

And frankly what I wanted MetaFilter to be has gone the way of VRML, Cyberspace, and Notepad as a development platform. Which is perhaps for the best.

But it's there. And now that World Of Warcraft is reaching it's end times, I'll actually have time to do something other than run through virtual forests as a gnome with huge pink ponytails. Plus, it would be cool to find a useful niche again in the MeFi-verse.

So. Anyone? Ideas? Is this worth keeping? Perhaps in some other form?

What's wrong with notepad as a development platform?

FWIW, I read MFDistilled regularly when it was being updated.

I thought the Metafilter Remixed idea had a lot of merit. But hardly anyone was using it, and those who were had different ideas of what deserved the [this is good] tag. My preferred solution is some sort of tagging and sorting option on Metafilter itself, ie, "show me all posts not tagged with Apple, politics or newsfilter."

Matt doesn't seem interested but I hope my incessant whining will eventually make him do my bidding.

You can't do awesome things like:

:.,.+10s/class="([^"]*)"/id="\1"/g

Duh.

Never heard of it. Thanks, will add to bookmarks.

It was like one person's Best of Metafilter, which somewhat defeats the whole community weblog aspect of the place. A bad idea to start with, in my opinion, and one that can now die in peace.

This post will be closed in a few days. Anyone have a problem with that?

Seriously, by the look of the site there should be no need to ask the question.

It was like one person's Best of Metafilter

...more like Digg where only one person voted.

hm Eideteker, I'm not sure bookmarking it will do any good.

I use Notepad2 (seriously, it rocks). I'm totally web 2.0.

might as well keep it, that's kind of a cool domain and maybe you can sell it someday.

It was a fun site while it lasted y6. I was sad to see if fall into disuse long ago, but I understand how much effort such a project entails.

I think it would definitely be worth keeping. I hadn't even heard of it before now. I don't think it would've been one man's idea of MeFi should be if more people had contributed.

But hey, I can't pay for it, so it's up to you.

I did a search on google.com, though, to see if I was anywhere in that site (I'm vain) and all that came up were killfile pages. Does this mean that the bits where I was mentioned were bad or killfiled by someone?

That sentence alone deserves its own graphic novel.

For what little it's worth, I used to check out Mefi distilled when it was updated.

a gnome with huge pink ponytails

That was YOU?!

I say keep it, if you've got the time to update it - I used to pop by when I didn't have time to trawl MetaFilter proper and wanted a quick fix of the good stuff.

I think it might be time to turn it into a Moxy Fruvous fansite. Or one dedicated to Oedipal relations.

If you were a clever simian, you'd sell it at a profit to those fools over at MonkeyFilter.

Y6, I was a huge fan of Mefi Distilled when it was updated regularly. In fact, it is a large part of what inspired me to do this silly thing.

I hope you both keep it, and start updating it again (once the end times are over!). It was -- and is -- a great site!

Count me in as one who visited fairly often too, and I was sorry to see it go. I never submitted sites, but I always thought that lots of other people were. If you were doing it alone, y6y6y6, I can see why it got burdensome.

I was a big fan of webmutant's metafilter remixed, but that never seemed to get enough use either. Damn.

anastasiav, I also liked your "best of" lists at mecha, too!

Thanks folks. I'll keep it. And update daily, starting soon. And add some more stuff.
