Yep. Member for almost a year. Damn.

It wasn't all lurk. Consider:

I think of the Pope and Michael Jackson as almost the same person.

I'm not entirely sure I can support the ban, in light of this new evidence.

I'm going to drop Janet Reilly a note and let her know I have no intention of voting for "an honest politician" who has people like Alex Lackey working for her.

I had the same thought.

I passed through that thread while it was still in the "Wait, this is weird" stage of its development. Nice work, mr_crash_davis.

The most obvious flaw in self-links are that they generally suck. I saw it this morning, thought "what the hell?" and figured it probably was a self-link. He's gone so it won't happen again. I don't think hassling him or his employer will do much good though. Seems pointless and petty at this point when his damage has been removed from the site.

The "RosaParks" tag was also pretty revolting.
posted by brain_drain at 2:14 PM on February 9, 2006

Impressive detective work. Angela Landsbury would be proud.

Regarding the distasteful "guerilla marketing" in that post -- it's highly likely MeFi will continue to be 'bzzed' [1, 2, 3] by overzealous "cool bzzagents" and other WOMA practitioners.

five fresh fish, I know an excellent witch doctor with whom you could discuss the issue. Ask him, he'll tell you what to say. He'll tell you what to do.

Incidentally, you remind me of the babe.

I thought we ought to have a crest to make it more official:

I beg to differ. We should keep them both (figuratively) hanging from the gallows in MeFi's public square, as a warning to all would-be perpetrators.

I'm not sure, but I think Janet Reilly is pro-death penalty, pro-fetus killing, pro-higher taxes, and she's also soft on crime. She takes bribes from every special interest group on the planet, and she filibusters everything she feels like. She wants more activist judges and thinks that regulation from the bench is A-OK. And she might also have had sexual relations with all of al-Qa'ida.

That is, if it's the same Janet Reilly that I'm thinking of...

And she might also have had sexual relations with all of al-Qa'ida.

OK, let's parse this through the Metafilter echo-chamber:

Pro-death penalty: BAD!
Pro-fetus killing: GOOD!
Pro-higher taxes: GOOD? (EAT THE RICH)
Soft on crime: GOOD! (LEGALIZE 420 LAWLZ)
Special-interest bribes: BAD!
Filibusterererer: GOOD!
Activist judges: GOOD!
Regulation from the bench: BAD!
Sexual relations with al-Qa'ida: HOT!
Spams Metafilter: BAD!

So far that's 5 Good, 4 Bad, and 1 Hot. I guess we're voting for this hypothetical Janet Reilly?

That should be a tattoo.

The pancakes on the crest are a nice touch. But I guess I don't know enough about crests or MeFi to get the hat.

I sent the Reilly campaign a polite but strongly worded email; I've also thought about mailing her opponents with this information.
posted by Optimus Chyme at 7:30 AM on February 10, 2006

It's actually doing Janet Reilly a disservice *not* to let her know what happened here. Don't you think she'd want to know that someone in a position at her campaign is this tone-deaf? That someone she trusts has just spelled out her name in steaming shit on the front page of a popular web site? I'd sure want to know that, if I were her.

Oh, and blag is funny.

Thanks for the kewl crest, blag. I'm going to have it tattooed on my firstborn, whether he likes it or not.

Please note, however, that Floydd had figured it out as well, I was just a little quicker on the keyboard than he was.

I will take the hot wings, though. Sorry, Floydd.

Thanks for the props, mr_crash_davis, but close only counts in horseshoes and dirty bombs.
But I'll tell you what, if you'll share your wings with me I'll share the beer and hookers and blow I've got coming from this AskMe thread.
