Are we still getting hit by DoS attacks? February 17, 2006 8:55 AM Subscribe
Is Metafilter still getting hammered a la this thread? I notice that just about every day this week, I have been unable to reach mefi at all in the morning time (GMT, say 8am till roughly 11 or noon). I thought it might just be my net connection at work, but my home connection has the same issues whenever it appears to be down.
Are we just undergoing backups or some-such thing at this time? Or does Ireland just disconnect from MeFi every morning for some reason? :)

I've been waking up to find the site down the last two days and I've restarted it in the 7-9 am EST range. Matt's been on the road, so hopefully he'll have some more insignht when he gets back.

There has been some weirdness between 1am and 5am Pacific the last few days. For some reason the site dies late in the night and for some other reason it comes back to life on its own 3 or 4 hours later.
I've been going through error logs and fixing things that might trip up the server but I haven't found what keeps killing the server at 1am every night. I suspect I'll figure it out in the next couple days as I continue tinkering with the code.

Wow, jessamyn, I never knew you had such power. So what's your cut of the $5?

It's the night watchman at the data center plugging in his fleshlight.

Actually, in Oregon, we can have the crontab call another script to help kill the server.
