Does this also mean the extinction of the SLOE?

that was more of a coat-hanger grinding post, by the way

They should be, as should be two-link newsfilter-axegrinder-plus-wikipedia-link posts. Wikipedia links are the new dictionary.com links. As mischief implies, adding a wikipedia link doesn't do anything to improve the post. But one-link newsfilter posts should be in the crosshairs, and should have to be pretty fantastic not to be deleted.

Jeez, Mischief, give Matt and Jess a chance.

This is a one-link meta-newsfilter meta-axegrindfilter post.

I don't get it, did you want the post to stay? Or are you upset that it wasn't removed quickly enough? It was town meeting day, so I was out all morning.

Neither, this represents an apparent shift in policy.
Yes? No? Maybe?

I would like to request that a "thread closed" indicator be placed on the mycomments page like it is on the front page.

It was town meeting day,

did you go there to cut off people's mikes?

(I'm kidding, j.)

I don't think this is new policy. Chest-beating one link newsfilter posts with little information and heavy editorializing along the lines of "support my boycott!" or "sign my petition!" are generally bad front page posts and people flag the hell out of them. If it's time for another post on what's going on in South Dakota, it would be nice if someone would take the time to make one that is worthwhile, and not just by adding one or two Wikipedia links to it.

Some people want strict rules and invent them when they don't really exist. Then they get all annoyed when their imaginary rules are broken. I'm sure it all makes sense to them.

Damn, now no one will see my link to the The International Vinegar Museum.

(When visiting the International Vinegar Museum, be sure to make a stop at the World's Largest Hairball.)

So, what, the policy is to boot any and all posts that contain an opinion?

Look, I don't know about y'all, but I got information out of the post that I didn't have before reading the link, and the comments were quite interesting, particularly the branch spun off of jfuller's comment. Maybe I'm inadequately stringent, but that was enough to make me like the post.

any and all posts that contain an opinion?

No, just the ones that express that opinion in a way guaranteed to stifle respectful debate and/or insult people who don't share the opinion. It's not a difficult line to draw. Are you really having trouble seeing what's wrong with that post?
