The new and improved Recent fantastic post flags for AskMe rocks! When do we get one for the blue?

I still don't get why only the number is shown and not the question or an excerpt from the question.

/me furiously starts taking down names.

It would good if there was a page where you could see if anyone had flagged any of your own posts as fantastic. Not that it's very likely in my case, but it would be good to know.

Furtive, I think most people memorize the numbers of all the questions they read. It's the easiest way to refer to them when discussing AskMe.

"Did you see 32019?" is much easier to type than "Did you see that one where they were asking about the rules of etiquette for Mormon wedding-related open houses?"

I'm just testing some code out. I hope to roll out favorites this week (showing posts and comments, not just their IDs) and do away with that fantastic posts page.

I like it.

532140 (3) suggested by mileena, exogenous, crush-onastick, evstar

I think the number of votes calculation is making some errors.

Also, why did a post that was considered fantastic by four users get deleted? Considering the question, it could be very interesting...

it's cool, thanks Matt

Because it was a cut-n-paste from an old Onion, without citation. Dumb.

Here it is.

Also, the new look is very cool, Matt, but it looks like it's going to be even more susceptible to feedback loops than the old one was.

Yeah some content instead of numbers would be great. It's also more interesting to me who made the fantastic comment than who voted for it (although that is also interesting).

Oh, that brought to my attention the "how hard to learn classic Greek" question.

There's so much content on mefi these days. I think I miss most of the good stuff.

Good, because despite grouse's enthusiasm, that page does not really rock at all.

Erm, am I the only one that doesn't do this? When looking at the main AskMe page the question numbers aren't visible anyway, so in order for someone to find a question you were referring to by number they'd have to hover over every question. Doing a ctrl+f for "mormon" is a lot easier, imho.

Erm, Lotto, I think a joke just flew over your head.

That was a good answer about zombie muscles, though.

Ugh. I feel stupid. Move on, nothing to see here.

Despite stavrosthewonderchicken's lack of enthusiasm, the current page is a big improvement over the last one.

I personally never check these "best of" pages. Would it be possible to put a check-mark or thumbs-up icon next to answers that have been flagged as fastastic more than a few times? I think it makes a lot more sense to see the feedback that other people thought the answer was fantastic in the context of the thread where it was posted rather than having to go to an unrelated context-free page that lists them all.

It has changed!

Hey, neat. Will this be the format that "Favorites" takes?
posted by Gator at 8:27 PM on March 12, 2006

I just improved it a bit more. Yeah, this will be closer to what the favorites page output looks like. Also, everyone's favorites will be public, so you'll see my favorites, I'll see yours, etc.

Now that's starting to approach Rock Factor 4... that's much closer to how I envisioned it (I hereby take all credit for Matt's work). Cool!

Looking good (but for what little it's worth I'd still prefer to see the two-column approach from my mockups)...

(and since it's not worth starting a thread about, recently the My Comments page has been stripping out line breaks in the bodies of comments. Could we pleeeease have them back? It makes a nightmare of readability...)
posted by stavrosthewonderchicken at 10:29 PM on March 12, 2006

Yeah, I have to track down one small bug to fix those.

Yeah, but not everyone knows Latin.

I like stavros' thing in his mockup of being able to see the question which the answers belong to by hovering over the link. Fantastic as the answers may be, it's more interesting if it's easy to see the context.

Perhaps this page will becoming known as Metametafilter?
