Hey kids! Glad you didn't touch that dial, the MetaTalk Game Show is just getting started!

davy has just posted a MetaTalk thread about himself. Is he

a) a pretentious twat

b) a wanker

c) someone who should euthanize himself

d) all of the above

e) none of the above

If you selected "e" you are either davy or Zombie Hitler.

And actually tweak, I select "d". What do I win?

OK, as far as I can tell, there are one of three possible explanations for this callout:

1. Davy feels that the question "Why are you still here?" was an unfair personal attack and/or threat on him, and he wanted to make sure we all knew about it.

2. Davy believes his ideas are so provocative and disturbing that they are going to get called out (or maybe even deleted) so he figures he might as well launch a preemptive strike.

3. Davy is an incredible avante-garde thinker who posts these amazing and deeply disturbing ideas that are just going to blow the minds of all you squares-- seriously, you guys can't handle what he's laying down--and he just knows that as soon as he posts them on MeFi, everybody is going to flock around to listen to his shocking, naughty ideas. But he kept posting and people kept ignoring him! Obviously, people weren't paying attention. So he had no choice but to start a MeTa thread so we can all be shocked by how shockingly shocking he is.

The problem with metafilter is overpopulation.
posted by empath at 7:58 AM on April 3, 2006

By the standards set on Metafilter not too long ago, if five_fresh_fish threatened somebody, and if JGreyNemo threatened the U.S. President, then I felt somebody might say there was something horribly objectionable about my comment last night.

For one thing, besides telling mdn '[I]f you think I should cease existing, why don't you simply hunt me down and kill me?', I also said I felt it was my job to 'urge you to euthanize yourself.' I even said in my comments in that thread that I agree that 9/10 of Earth's human population should die. By the standards set last summer then I'd threatened myself, mdn, and 5,400,000,000 people!

Ergo, pre-emptively calling myself out accords with a long-establish Metafilter tradition. To quote JGreyNemo, "Testify brothers and sisters Testify!"

Now on preview I see that while I was working on this comment -- and failing to find JGreyNemo's original deleted "threat" -- I see Scarabic sorta beat me to it; but, well, see Scarabic's comment.

And while previewing I also found another example of a Metafilter tradition. Next thing ya know somebody'll accuse me of being a sock-puppet for Dios or ParisParamus.

davy - so what you're really saying is that none of us were sufficiently enraged about your 'controversial' opinion, so you decided to be outraged on our behalf in a bid to foment the outrage you failed to elicit with your original comment? Lame.
posted by jack_mo at 8:48 AM on April 3, 2006

davy: it looks to me that for a "bodhisattva" or whatever, you are pretty damned sensitive. mdn appeared, at least to me, to be asking why you are not living out "(or in your cse I guess dying) your own philosophy - self-euthanasia. He was wondering why the apparent inconsistency of you still being alive, to whic you answered, and then you freaked out and posted to MetaTalk for a perceived slight.

However laughable your philosophy is, mdn seemed to be asking a legitimate question. Of course, you are probably so accustomed to ridicule (and rightly so) that you overreacted.

In summary, you are a humorless dolt who is quite possibly under the influence, or insane. You are an asshat, and a coward. You could have dealt with this in the MetaFilter thread. Kill yourself.

Oh, now I think I need to call myself out in MetaTalk! Damn!

Jeez, y'all stupid or something? He made it clear in his first post what his intention was, "shameless self-pomo." I presume "self-promo" was meant although self-pomo is almost funny if you think about it. And you're a pretentious twat. Anyway, it certainly appears to me the whole purpose is to drive traffic to the Church of Euthenasia site, with which he twice asserts formal association (and specifically identifies his actions in both the referent and the current thread as being in service of his position in said organization). Because that video conflation of 9/11 footage, pornography and sports was so hardcore. I was totally like shocked. I'd call it bannable thread spamming but then I'm easily annoyed by dumb fuckers.

What else is there to say?
posted by nanojath at 8:58 AM on April 3, 2006

Okay, it sounded like a really brilliant idea last night when I was tipsy, but now it's starting to sound like it's too much like work. Some folks got the point quickly and some folks never will, so in accord with another long-established MeFi/MeTa tradition I urge that everybody's freedom of speech be restricted by closing this thread.

[By the way mediareport, if I can still punctuate and capitalize semi-appropriately I ain't really drunk yet, just "tipsy".]

Oh actually nanojath, I never asserted any formal association with the Church of Euthanasia; I've never even exchanged email with anybody claiming to be an official member of the CoE (if there is such a creature). What I said was exactly the opposite: that's what "unofficial" and "self-appointed" mean. Like, how many people who claim to be the Second Coming of Christ have any official position in any of the official Xian churches, and how many who claim to be Napoleon (presumably #I) are employed by the French government? Try to read for comprehension, d00d: that one was so tres slow-pitch my baby niece could hit it blind-folded.

Again: as I clearly said (don't make me dig up the reference where I clearly did say this), even before the Church of Euthanasia was founded I was vocally expressing the idea that 9/10 of humanity should perish. Maybe I should sue the CoE for plagiarism, huh?

(See what I mean about closing this thread? Now the ninny contingent, as exemplified so well by "tweak" and "nanojath", found it.)
