The Guardian scrapes Metafilter... April 10, 2006 3:34 AM   Subscribe

I thought jb, cribcage and delmoi might be interested to know their comments in last week's thread about liberalism on US campuses were published in Saturday's Guardian.

With Permission, one assumes - or do the Guardian still not understand about copyright?

Are they in the Guardian online edition?

I couldn't find them with a quick look, I should say they only used a few sentences from each.

Well, if you can't link the article it didn't happen. You are hereby ordered to scan the document and host the image for our convenience. NOW!

Yeah, please give details :o I can't find anything and can't get the Guardian in this uncivilised country.

They quoted short extracts of each with attribution, their use falls within the remit of review / news reporting.

I don't see any reason why this would not be covered by fair dealing.

"How old was that issue of The Guardian, Milo?"

Right - but without access to a copy of the Guardian to see otherwise, the OP made it sound like entire comments had been taken wholesale, no?

I buy the guardian international edition on Saturdays when I can, and I saw this, however there is no way I can find it in the on line edition. Here is the search.

Indeed. Thank you.

Neat stuff. I missed the thread initially.

(Actually, I didn't miss it initially. Just missed the fireworks.)

I wonder if it was a Marina Hyde article. She's well known for 'lifting' articles from other sources, including blogs.

movilla: No, they have a specific bit which quotes different blogs on a couple of different topics.

movilla, xould you please give us a link about that, or something that talks about this. Even if it's just another throwaway blog comment that accuses somebody of plagiarism.

I'll see if I can find the piece.

Here's the Guido Fawkes piece.

Ah...biffa: I wonder if you're referring to the "Today on the Web" page 2 regular blog quotes, collated by Ben Rooney.
posted by movilla at 8:26 AM on April 10, 2006

No, the Saturday edition has a page called the webpage with a section 'what the bloggers say...', page 38 this Saturday. (I just popped into the library here to check.)

Wolfdog made a Bloom County reference, therefore he is cool.

But you didn't notice he was responding to mine, so either you're not cool or I'm not.

I choose to believe keswick was commenting unironically, and we're all cool.
