Metafilter meetup NYC June 2006 June 4, 2006 8:19 AM Subscribe
NYC. It looks like I will be in The City this coming weekend. I know you folks just met up, but is anyone interested in hanging out this coming Friday night?
I had so much fun at the last one I'd definitely be in.
(Your bike would be fine, by the way.)

Short notice is a killer, man!
At least it won't be as rainy as yesterday...

Hmmm, my little (< 21) sisters are in town, so it'll depend on where we go.

Well if we go to that place we went last time, I don't think they card...then again, that was pretty recent, so maybe for variety we should change location this time.

I'm down for a new place, if people know of good spots, especially those that won't card.

But don't make that a primary concern- they're shy(er then me), so we probably wouldn't stay long even if we could make it.

...which leaves us a pretty wide spectrum to deal with.

Stickycarpet had some *rather* vociferous objections to Revival, if I remember correctly. Something to do with bad light for photography.
I was going to snark on that shy comment but I see bingo got there first.

I'm a straight man who once tried a Zima. It was college, we were experimenting.

Your bike would be fine, by the way.
Well, I'll just have ridden 250+ miles from Ithaca, so my butt's gonna be sore, and my reflexes attenuated. I'd rather not try motorcycling into NYC in such a state. It'll also depend on the weather. If it rains and I'm soaked to the skin, I won't exactly be eager to hop on and ride again, leave my bike parked in the rain, and then ride home wet.
In short, I'd like to leave the train as an option, which restricts the times I can be available.
But I'm excited to see you all again, and to meet those I haven't yet! I'm cool with a place where they don't serve alcohol, if that makes it more convenient for TPS. We can always migrate later. I will need food at some point and most bars in NYC that I've been to suck for food (as in serve none). So I don't mind meeting in a food place and then moving to a drink place (which is what we did in Boston).

Ah, phew. I've got to remember that "bike" doesn't always mean "bicycle."

No, no, there must be beer. And lots of it. And quick easy access to a place to smoke things, where The Man don't come.
TPS, are your sisters goers? Know what I mean, do they go? Nudge nudge, wink wink.

In terms of bars, apparently a lot of meetups used to happen at this place called d.b.a. (warning: site includes video stream of bar webcam). It has an outdoor patio, although I'm not sure the exact schedule of it being open.

That's the point of moving the meetup. If you only want liquor, you only show up for the liquor part. C'mon, guys; Boston was able to figure it out, so can we!
There are places that serve food AND alcohol, though. I'm no longer a resident, so hook me up with some locations!

Alright, how about this: Sundou Dumpling Restaurant (as recommended by jonmc) at ~7-7:15 for anyone who, like me, needs food; and then unless anyone has any better suggestions, Revival has proven to be a very hospitable location (and TPS's sisters can get in. Bonus!). I'd say starting between 8:30 and 9 PM for drinks at Revival 'til whenever. Folks can show up at whatever time they want, of course, and I can suck it up and catch the midnight train back (I'm sure my hosts won't mind too badly me getting back after 12 AM) because I'd like to have a chance to meet as many of you as possible. Who knows when I'll be back in town?

"There is no swimming at the beach."
Then it's not a beach!
I predict that Eideteker will not actually show up...
If I don't show up, it means I had an accident on Rt. 17. Pray I show up (I know I will, and I'm not religious).

No, and therefore it's not a beach! Just like the "Jersey Shore." Yes, there's sand, and water, and fewer hypodermic needles than there used to be, but still.

Saturday would've been better for me, but I *might* be able to try tommorow. As nothing's been set yet, how about Mars 2112 again, for laughs/old times' sake/food & drink, not to memtion getting Pink's younger relatives in? If memory serves me right, dame was able to get through last time without any major ID hangups.
