So, are they banned?
Seriously, if this doesn't come out everywhere on Monday morning and this turns out to be a stupid rumor, truthout and rawstory links are going to be banned from mefi.

So, you're gonna force Steve to post one to prove his point? Just answer the question, are they banned or not?

steve, and i say this with all due respect: you giant dummy.
why on earth would you want them banned? anyone linking to them would be instantly ridiculed, and justly so. they have lost all credibility. ergo, someone posts to truthout -- you win! that's what you want, isn't it? to "win"?

Very simple.

I assume you're asking because someone, somewhere must have linked to truthout in a comment? If so, I didn't mean a blanket ban of any links to the truthout anywhere on the site -- I meant I had had enough of the OMG BUSH IS GOING DOWN posts that hinged on a single rawstory or truthout link that never really panned out. It seems like we have 1 or 2 a month for the past few months of the Plame thing. It was worse than posting rumors.

I can't speak to how Steve normally interacts on here or whether or not what you say would be consistent with his behavior, but I imagine that's what most people would actually do. It just so happens most everyone else here wanted to see Rove indicted.
Count me among the many who were disappointed by the news, but reality is what it is, and the web site in question most certainly has a dubious track record. His comment itself was quite innocuous and without trying to read into any hidden self-satisfaction it was a reasonable thing to ask. At some point someone needed to follow the thread up to see if Mathowie was going to go ahead with the policy and what that policy would be (or should have, anyhow).

I didn't say it in a "oh my god I'm going to code up a banned list!" way, I said it in a "well, looks like I can add 'truthout' to the list of BS rumor sites that I will more easily delete posts from"posted by Plutor at 5:12 AM on June 14, 2006
Stuff on LGF, daily kos, democratic underground, drudge, and rawstory tend to get deleted because they tend to post unsupported rumors. It looks like truthout is one to add to that list, so in the future, if someone posts a mouth foaming OH MY GOD BUSH WILL GET IMPEACHED!!!1!! post and it links to truthout and has no sources backing it up, it will be deleted just like similar posts sourced only from the other sites I listed.

The guideline is that truthout and rawstory (and other pseudonewsfilter hyperbole bs) links are much less likely to see the light of day in a FPP. I don't understand why this is in MetaTalk.

But if someone posts a "Cheney indicted" story and sources only Truthout, it's ripe for deletion.
mathowie made clear in this thread that not every single link to Truthout was going to be tossed.
