Please, klangklangston, tell us about the music July 19, 2006 1:57 PM Subscribe
I was hoping klangklangston would, if he has the time, post one or two lines about each of the numerous albums he cites, either in the main thread or his own blog. I was concerned that a request for a self-link or major derail might be frowned upon in the blue, hence this MeTa.
I start it off for him: Anything by Merzbow is unlistenable. Take it away kk!

These aren't terribly obscure albums--try searching the ILM forums, I imagine there have been some pretty big throw-downs over at least a few of these...

Can he also explain what is happening in Gram Parson's "$1000 Wedding"? Why is there supposed to be a funeral? I don't get it. Also, does everyone really need a bosom for a pillow? And finally, if you're so vain, but the song is not about you, then who the fuck is vain? If the song is saying that you are vain, how can it then also not be about you? You see what I am saying? It doesn't make any sense! Help me klangklangston! You're my only hope!

Funny you should mention that, ND¢: I was just thinking about opening up a vain...

I certainly love anyone that cites Nurse with Wound as influential. Who among us hasn't spent countless hours listening to Sylvie and Babs or Brained by Falling Masonry? Great balls of fur, indeed!

kimota, it would *not* have been a "major derail" in that thread to ask klang for more information about his picks - hell, it wouldn't have been a derail at all. Also, occasional self-linking is perfectly fine in comments here. It's the post itself that shouldn't have any self-links. In other words, don't feel like you have to censor yourself on either of those scores, and rest assured your request clearly belongs in the blue rather than a new MeTa thread.
[kaytwo, please stop using the harder-to-see caret to link something - just link the words themselves [in this case, "metamonkey's comment"; it's the norm at the site, and most every other site, too. Thanks!]

Wouldn't mind if Sugar Fish Drink was the most influential album of all time...

i'm trying to run the caret into the ground because i hate it for wikipedia links. overuse in other and dumb situations will dilute the meaning of it and hopefully ruin it for all time. of course if i keep doing it in MeTa no one will notice. help me out please?

Yeah, but in a good way!
(I'll post some quick descriptions on my blog. Most of those listings were off the top of my head, and I didn't even spell 'em all right. They're just things that have influenced my listening habits far more than, say, Joni Mitchell. But some people don't like to listen to NWW...)

Bullocks!
And thanks, klang, since you posted your list, I've listened to a lot of stuff that's been languishing on my shelves long enough to get proper dusty. Plus Whitehouse. God I love Whitehouse. Their influence on power electronics cannot be underestimated, so I'm frankly shocked that you didn't include them ;-)

The only Whitehouse album I have is Bird Seed. And I gotta draw a line somewhere, right?
