Circumventing the one-week delay by posting to Projects August 3, 2006 7:02 PM   Subscribe

Can we keep the rule that n00bs can't post their first FPP on the same day they sign up? Especially when they are just trying to drive traffic to an escorts website?

Seemed like a good rule...

Due to a few opportunistic members that ignored guidelines in the past, there is a one-week waiting period after signup, before you are allowed to post a new question to Ask MetaFilter or a new post to MetaFilter. You can post comments to MetaFilter and MetaTalk, and answers to Ask MetaFilter right away though.

And that's in the guidelines. What happened?

london escorts started off with a bang!

Sorry, that quote was from the new user page.

I think his post bypassed the rule because he posted it directly from Projects.

yeah, from projects it wasn't checked. I removed the post anyway, since it's not really a good enough one for the front page.

Especially when they are just trying to drive traffic to an escorts website?

There is a noindex, nofollow on all userpages and a nofollow on all links in profiles, so really, his site is invisible to search engines on this server. I did all that to thwart people with dodgy sites like that.

Sweet, dude.

Would you have removed the post if it hadn't been posted by a spammer? I was actually just about to post the link myself, which is how I discovered the original thread. It's kind of lame that someone's link basically got ruined by a spammer.

Since this guy is apparently the first person to figure out you could avoid the delay by posting straight from projects, I say everyone buys a hooker from that escort site.

The site seems pretty generic.

If anyone has a go at Peace, I'd be keen to hear your review. Email in profile.

Half-joking.

Half.

Who says orthogonality doesn't have a sense of humor?

When I saw that user name, the first thing I thought was "sockpuppet for P_G?"

Best laugh I've had all day - thanks ortho!

Yeah, the way it was phrased (silly question for discussion) and considering the link just went to a boring donation page. If you can make an interesting post out of it, go ahead.

Nah, he's not. We've talked about it before here.

He's barking up the wrong tree. I don't think we're really his target demo, with one notable exception as pointed out by orthogonality. Now if he ran a site that featured IT girls who moonlight as escorts...

I didn't follow the link, but it sounds like this post could be a contender for the $30 charge.

I think this would be a great place for excellent posters to spend their $30 prize!

My favorite part too. I dunno if it's supposed to be reassuring (because when I break down and start buying sex, the one thing I want to do is talk to some dude about it) or if the implication is a woman couldn't handle the pressure of the hotline.

Or maybe he just doesn't want people calling trying to get free phone sex. From a woman.

Oh man, that P_G thread was classic. Linky anybody? Did I miss it?
