What's the deal with this $30/day contest? August 3, 2006 7:26 PM   Subscribe

What's the deal with this $30/day contest? Is this a joke that went over my head or did I miss something? 'Cause goddammit, I need that 30 bucks.

The first winner was announced, but I haven't heard who won yesterday's.

The second winner is mentioned on the same thread. I'm working on a permanent page for the winners.

I'm going to guess my FPP won Zero dollars today. But that's ok; I do it for love, not money. Though money can buy me love, if I can just get to London.

I've noticed an increase in bloody crappy FPPs.
$30 would explain it.

For sure, every meme on the internets this month, no matter how minor, will find its way to mefi. That is not actually a bad thing. I was first attracted here out of sloth. Rather than meandering around aimlessly (and in the early days before Google and Alta Vista it was pretty aimless) in one fell swoop you could snatch up a half dozen interesting links. Now, most of the interesting ones wend their way here or to BoingBoing sooner or later, but now with pride and thirty bucks on the line they are leaping over here from Digg, and wherever at a rapid pace. That's good. If you want to surf quickly and painlessly and find lots of great stuff, and certainly every thing that is hopping on the internets right now, this is the month to spend on MeFi. It's a pretty slow business month as well which only enhances the free time people will have to find us nice stuff to look at. I like to watch.

I think it's kinda neat to see so much care on the front page, even if there's a bit of a frantic feel to it.

Pre-AltaVista? Back then, couldn't you actually surf the whole Intarweb inside of a month or so?

Ugh. damn clipboard. The quoted line should be:

Pre-AltaVista? Back then, couldn't you actually surf the whole Intarweb inside of a month or so?

Then I say "I remember GNN. Therefore, I pwn you all."

How's that comment editing thing comming matt?

If people get this excited over $30, maybe Jason Calacanis was right all along -- imagine what people might do for $1,000 per month. Sad, really.

This was before the endless september!
I told you I was hard-core!

I'm talking about the global network navigator which was the first way I knew of to find web pages, before I started using Yahoo's index to find stuff.

Well, bloody at least. But $30 didn't explain that one. Cathy Rigby is to blame.
