Thanks! October 8, 2006 4:21 PM   Subscribe

Hello. I just want to thank everyone who responded to my Ask Metafilter question about spouse/fiance immigration.

The people who responded really knew what they were talking about, and the advice I received and links to other more specialized sites were just fantastic. I am so grateful for AskMetafilter, and for the Internet! Yay! We don't have the visa yet, but everything's moving along. I suppose I'll post another joyful thank-you note when he gets approved. I LOVE YOU GUYS.

Awesome and congrats. I can only imagine that you and P_G make an awesome pair. And I can only imagine what snarklets your offspring may be. ;)

This concept, while well intentioned, will not scale well. "I'd like to thank..." Metas X75 ( number of AskMe's per day).

Your recent comment in the AskMe thread could have included the above wording. Nuff said.

From the askme question:

As long as you have a straightforward case (no previous overstays, nothing in his background or criminal record that would warrant special consideration) I would suggest doing it yourself.

Do multiple mefi bannings warrant special consideration?

(I kid because I love never got a pointy hat.)

Thanks for taking that tosspot off our hands America.

Thanks for taking that tosspot off our hands America.

Don't kid yourself. He's merely on loan for about eighteen months or so. You'll get him back in a reasonable condition.

Now THAT was uncalled-for, Mayor Curley.

That will be an improvement on his current condition, then ;-)

Weddings!
I'm now too sarcastic and urbane to genuinely emote, but still; weddings!
*confettis wildly*

Elvis in Vegas has already been done, so I would humbly suggest a guest appearance by "Bleeding Gums" Murphy at a drive-thru ceremony.

Ha! Sometimes I think "touched" means "spilled coffee on" or something, thing.

But congratulations! See! You could do it.

Maybe he wants new parents.
posted by Pastabagel at 10:12 AM on October 9, 2006

OR maybe he, like me, read this post, got confused, and thought you were a guy, and then concluded that you were marrying another guy, and like many gay couples, would want to adopt. Of course, gay couples can't bring in their spouses under marriage or fiance visas under US law, so that made the fiance visa askme bizarre, to say the least.

Of course the operative phrasing in that post is "Although there are people who care for me, like the person posting this question" is clear as paint, so you can forgive our confusion.

My bad!

Maybe the "postingforafriend" tag, the third person update, or the metatalk thread that already addressed this very issue could help you with that, Pastabagel.

LOL, I had already figured it out, thx.

Good luck, and congratulations! (And get your fiance to join metafilter!)

No, really. It's hilarious when people don't get cultural references immediately. Isn't it? No? Just me? Oh, ok.

dg: "No, really. It's hilarious when people don't get cultural references immediately. Isn't it? No? Just me? Oh, ok."

I don't think the lack of understanding was the funny part. I think the funny part was the mind-bending irony.

Mefites like their injokes, and nothing makes a better injoke than an ironic comment by someone who apparently wasn't around when, say, matt first installed the CAPTCHA.
