Possible to buy gift memberships? October 25, 2006 10:20 PM   Subscribe

Is it at all possible to buy gift MeFi memberships to others? Answers in comments, please.

Seeing as how this is the third time in the last year someone has created a MeTa post asking this, how about adding it to the FAQ?

And WTF does "Answers in comments, please" mean? As opposed to, what, being delivered telepathically?

It's not that hard. Lemme put it on the todo list for tomorrow's code crunch.

Once it's done, let me know and I'll add it to the FAQ.

Answers in comments because ambiguity is the soul of chicken. Or something.

So, what? You can buy your buddy a membership or not?

Speaking of the FAQ, should there not be a more prominent link to it on the blue and on the green? It seems to me that those who find the gray and know what it's for are the least likely to need the FAQ. At the very least, perhaps there could be a link at the top of the "About" page?

I was going to put my answer in a quiche. You want it in the comments? That's so weird.

Currently there is no mechanism to do it, but it looks like Matt's put it on his "to do" list. For now, you can buy an account and give it to your friend, but then you'd risk setting it up under a username that your friend didn't like. I'd suggest waiting a day or two.

Tis nearly the season for the Gift of the MeFi.

The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind.

Can you make it so that when the gift "arrives" for the recipient, it looks like it cost 500 bucks and not 5?
Answer to appear in mouseover over copyright symbol at bottom of page, please.

I'm going to start appending "answers in comments" to all my posts. It seems to make mathowie jump.

Answers in comments, please.

"I've always thought that, yes, this is truly the best of the web".
"This Pepsi Blue, it vibrates, you say?"
"I will need some pancakes up in here"
"George W Bush, he be dumb"
"Metafilter: able and willing"
"Is this Buffy something you need a TV to know about?"
"Pissing elephants, coming soon..."
"I don't think this book says what you think it says"
"What the fuck, Matt"

MeFi membership makes a great stocking stuffer. It is truly the gift that keeps on giving.

Like sylphilis?

syphilis goes away...MetaFilter is like herpes, you know no matter what there is always going to be an outbreak on the grey.

I baked my answer into a cake, but the guards confiscated it.

I'm trying to imagine what the symptoms of sylphilis would be. "Oh god, she's become a graceful spirit who lives in the air! She must have sylphilis!"

See, I figured the OP meant "please answer in the thread, rather than send me the answer in email" but they don't have an email in their profile, so I got nothin' now.

My husband paid for mine; he's the one with the PayPal acccount. I started the process, he logged in and finished it. In theory he knows my password, though he's probably forgotten it by now.
