Self link? November 3, 2006 5:23 AM   Subscribe

self/commercial link? This link seems really suspicious to me. It could be an attempt to boost the page rank of that legal marketing page, or something. Posters in the thread seem pretty skeptical of the claims, and it just seems sketchy to me.

ugh this is the link I was talking about. Sorry.

I don't know that it's a self link, but saying in the main post "In my local newspaper, I noticed a tiny news brief" to me doesn't make it a much better post than that guy who scanned and posted his junk mail the other day. To me it's an axe-grind post, not best of the web -- even in the loosest sense of "best of the web".

It's a pretty crappy, ax-grinding, shrill GYOB post with suspiciously brand-conscious language.

At least the title is even-handled and lets us make up our own minds.

That doesn't smell like a self-link, especially given that there are seven different links in the post. The poster seems more like an aspiring journalist who is eager to "get the story" and trying a little too hard.

I was suspicious too, but I concluded it was more likely stupid than self-promoting. Notice how it links to multiple law firms.

Yeah, but they both might be clients or something. It just seems 'wrong' to me and the poster is brand new.

Plus, it's an amazingly dull FPP anyway, so I think it's a good candidate for deletion anyway.

delmoi, stop it. This did not need to be brought here, and you know it. Learn some impulse control before bringing every little thing to MeTa.

I, too, think that metafilter.com is a self/commercial link. Ban him! Ban somebody!

True. It seems like somebody, somewhere, is in a basement making money off of it. Selling usernames for $5 apiece or something.

Not the best of delmoi's web.

Do your own Innernet Defective work.

Yeah, no harm no foul here.

delmoi, maybe email me next time and I can investigate before you make posts like this? Seems like it'd prevent half the OMG SELF-LINK accusations that fly around here and end up being false.
