Because if there's a time of year that you haven't been drinking enough, it's just after Christmas and New Year's Eve.

Place: (This space intentionally left blank)
Date: The weekend of the 12th

That's "merrie." Get it right.

Count me in for this.

Oh yush, I'll be there. The whole weekend or just one evening? My packed social diary says, ooh, I'm free Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I need to get a life.
posted by TheDonF at 8:57 AM on December 28, 2006

The whole weekend

Yep. We're all going to London, Ontario.

Hot dang! Actually probably cold dang.

Work commitments mean i can't make 12th Jan. I could make the 13th though...

I'll be wearing a hat. Unless I've had my hair done. Then my head will be naked.

Friday good, Saturday bad, Sunday so-so.

So far, my calendar is also wide open on the 12th, 13th and 14th, so I'm in.

Also, fwiw, there's a pub here in Bloomsbury (I'm sure that there are many, but there's one in particular that I know) that has a function room with bar that apparently can be used for free -- should I try to find out if we could book that?

I'd be there but I'm only in London Monday to Thursday... can we do a midweek meetup one time?
posted by hardcode at 4:33 PM on December 28, 2006

I'm in. I'm also hungry. Can we go somewhere for food before I drink too much, this time?

PS - Hello from NYC.
posted by armoured-ant at 8:42 PM on December 28, 2006

Food? Before you drink? But but but... how will you fit all the booze in?

Had a great time at the last one, but now I'm 4000 miles away, so unless I start walking last month, I'm gonna have to pass.

Have fun all.

It'd be great if you could look into that Sue, what's the pub called? And does it do food?

That might be a handy date decider, although I suspect if we did manage something as grand as having a room booked we'll then have an attendance of four. 'Least it'll be quiet though.

Did anyone else get a toilet seat that plays the 'Hart to Hart' them tune every time you go near it? Mine looks worse than it sounds now I've used it.

If old timers like dash_slot, chrismear & armoured-ant are going then count me in ;-) Saturday 12th is good.

Suggestions:

There's a few cheap AYCE buffet places on Greek Street with plentious pubs nearby (e.g. Pillars of Hercules).

One of the Belgo/Beirdrome places

Some weird backstreets of Mayfair pub.

Is that Spanish pub/tapas place on Hanway Street (runs between Ox St & TCR) still going?

Not sure about booking a place tho'...bit official for a meetup...

However, I'm easy. I'd invite you all to my g/f's Dad's pub but it's in Essex...

Hey you - less of the 'old-timers'! I spotted your greying temples back in UK Meetup1, y'know! Still, it seems that the friday is more likely - but if more folk are up for something saturday, I'll haul my ass up to The Smoke one more time.

Where's seanyboy these days?

I'm an old timer? Cooool!

Also: Where is my cabal membership card?
posted by armoured-ant at 5:46 AM on December 29, 2006

You have to do 2 international meet-ups first

BTW, old-timers refers to UKMeetup old times rather than age...otherwise AA & CM have yeeeeeeeears to go...

Our user numbers are less than, like, 1,000 apart. If I chop off the head of someone with an earlier number, so I get their prowess?

Sort of, "In the There can be only user #1"?
posted by armoured-ant at 7:19 AM on December 29, 2006

Sounds good to me - I'm in! (although I said that last time, and then I got ill...)
posted by adrianhon at 10:17 AM on December 29, 2006

Hang on - I just realised I made NO sense earlier.

*Sort of, in the "There can only one user #1" sort of way.

So, are we saying Friday then? That would be nice.
posted by MrMustard at 2:20 AM on December 30, 2006

I probably can't make that one. I think that's the weekend I'm scheduled to console my sister (her husband left her on Christmas Eve and various people are taking it in turns to visit her).

But have fun. Take lots of pictures.

This is way after the fact, but the place that I was (mildly) suggesting was Yorkshire Grey. I haven't asked them about using the room (yet).
posted by sueinnyc at 4:36 PM on January 1, 2007

So have we decided on which members we're going to shun a date? Or are we waiting for the results of the function room bookerification first? Or shall we just stay out all weekend?
posted by chrismear at 8:16 AM on January 3, 2007

Maybe 'we' need to post another thread ;-)

Not sure about the Grey, It used to be a cracking pub but now has a bit of a rep for being gastropub arse. And I'm not sure we need a function room...(memories of the 4-man first London meetup!)

OK, so who wants to be 'we'?
posted by i_cola at 5:26 AM on January 4, 2007

Go for it i_cola.

I kind of agree with you about the Yorkshire Grey. It's very close to my work and a little on the soulless side.
posted by MrMustard at 6:02 AM on January 4, 2007

Let's all just bundle into a proper boozer then. Post the thread, post the thread!
posted by chrismear at 11:36 AM on January 4, 2007

OK. I'll do it.

But I'll wait until the Yanks have stopped posting about how Metafilter is making them cry. i.e. tomorrow morning ;-)

Uh, you'll be waiting a lot longer than tomorrow morning if you want them to stop posting about that... :)
