Great Day in the Blue January 11, 2007 9:48 AM   Subscribe

With all the AskMe talk, we hardly talk about the blue. Yesterday was a outstanding day on there and I just want to say thanks to every poster, even those who got deleted.

I concur. The past few days have been good.

I cannot decide to which should go the greater praise: those comments posted, or those not.

I wouldn't ever expect less from a group made up almost entirely of TIME's persons-of-the-year...

wheelieman: "... even those who got deleted."

Indeed. All of the deleted posts were relatively well-constructed doubles, and therefore still great posts, even if they had to be nixed. All of them, that is, except for this gem, which was what really made my day.

That's what I like, when people post solid FPPs just for the heck of it.

That "Brawn not brains" post was atrocious.

Rhomboid, you misspelled "unbelievably awesome".

I thought he was trying to spell "a wicked pisser", which is nearly identical to what he wrote.

I wasn't. I feel really bad about it. But there is no way to correct the record. It kept me up last night.

You could always burn down the internet, dame.

Don't worry, dame, I know some folks who can help.
posted by cortex at 1:11 PM on January 11, 2007

dame: when I was making mine, I sat there for at least half an hour trying to figure out how people made posts where the first word wasn't a link. It vexed me greatly, because MeFi kept telling me to fill in the other blank besides the URL line, the 'link title.' 'I don't want a link title, you wonky thing!' I exclaimed at mathowie's glowing, neutral prose over and over again. Finally, I found an old thread where he mentioned that you could leave both lines blank. Argh.

There should be something in the post page about that.
posted by koeselitz at 1:15 PM on January 11, 2007

Your post looked fine, though, if you ask me. And was very good, too.

What do Reputation Defenders wear?
posted by dame at 1:20 PM on January 11, 2007

Thanks, Mr. koeselitz. I just felt like I didn't do a good job explaining why it was interesting to me and then I wanted to defend it without seeing defensive and explain it without moderating. And then I went out and smoked some heroin and finally passed out.

That's a really good point. It's easy to add to the FAQ, I'll see about adding it to the post page one of these days.

Reputation Suspenders, silly.

Thank you, koeselitz! (and thanks to Jessamyn for the follow-up about adding it the posting page instructions)... I had been wondering about that myself.

Actually, if you ask me, the "URL" and "Link title" fields are totally extraneous and should be removed. There should just be a big box that you compose your post in, making links whereever and however you see fit. Of course, I don't think this will happen because I'm sure there are enough retards out there that have no idea how to do even the most basic HTML link (in fact I know this from seeing it happen countless times on AskMe) who would find some way to fuck this up and need the hand holding of "put a URL here", "type some words here." Sigh.

It's hard out there, Rhomboid.
posted by cortex at 3:25 PM on January 11, 2007

Yeah, I'm totally with Rhomboid. You know what else I hate? Grandmas in crosswalks. Fucking grandmas. Goddamnit if they don't take forever crossing the street. Hell, they can't even hear it when I over rev the custom V8 I had installed in my H2, and I've got straight cans on that! Fuckit, man, let's make crosswalk signals like 15 seconds and if you're not out of the street you're meat. I mean, the only people who don't drive are homeless, poor people and fucking terrorists, right?
posted by loquacious at 3:54 PM on January 11, 2007

I'm an html retard, and when I made my (first) post yesterday the url and title lines confused the hell out of me; I wasnt sure if my links were even going to work til the preview. I think it would be less confusing without them, myself.
posted by supercrayon at 3:59 PM on January 11, 2007

I love those crosswalk grannies.
Whenever I cross the street I try to make sure I'm walking beside one so that if a car skids or blows through the light and hits me, at least it's somewhat buffered.
