Is static-rendering possible? November 12, 2001 7:57 AM   Subscribe

Despite all the new RAM, at least from Europe, access is reaching 11.9 levels of difficulty. Is static-rendering possible? This time users are trusting MetaFilter more than the usual sources, as it does a great summing up job.

I know a lot of users don't like NPR but they're certainly doing a much better job than CNN, Sky or BBC World Service. They're calm, they actually quote all other TV and radio stations impartially - acting as a really valuable summary of all available news on the crash - and they have cool and collected commentators on hand.

Er, sorry, just got on to the front page. Seems like its a problem with the server this end. Just slow, that's all. ;-(

Things were bad on November ninth? I wasn't aware. :)

If the load stays bad, I'll move to static rendering later this morning.

Seems to be working for me. I have a feeling this thread is causing some problems though.

I'm not getting a "new submission" parenthetical statement on Mefi (but it is working here on Metatalk)

PP, are you seeing this message in the upper right?:

"Due to increased traffic, this page is static for the day"

Yes. But either I was not before, or it was not there before. Sorry to waste your time like that, Matt.

you're still mad about the times thing and did that just to spite the americans, didn't you?

Hey, lotsofno, the truth is even more ridiculous. I've always written September 11 on my posts - even initiated a thread on the correct way to refer to the attacks - and today, wishing to be cool and American-like I decided, disastrously, to adopt your own style. 'Cept that, instead of 9.11, I wrote 11.9, betraying my wan attempt to be one of the crowd. And got ticked off by The Man himself too. Pathetic indeed; I agree.

P.S.
Doggone, it's The Times, you insolent whippersnapper! :-)

wishing to be cool and American-like

ahah! You heard it here first, folks -- MiguelCardoso wants to be American-like.... If even MC (that bastion of stubborn European multiculturalism) can see the light, maybe there is hope yet for those poor, as-yet unenlightened foreigners among us who still fail, despite the preponderance of evidence, to perceive the incomparable awesomeness that is America, and its flawless, unflappable (i.e., "cool") understanding of the True Nature of Things....

there's "tech stuff" near the bottom of the about page. I think there was some mention of some more RAM being added somewhere in MeTa, too, but I can't find it....

Here it is, mattpfeff.

*mumbling like Igor in Frankenstein Junior: "Can't do anything for yourself, can you, mattpfeff...what would you do, I ask you, without me constantly cleaning and tidying up after you...honestly...groan, mumble, sheesh..."* :)
