Mindfuck Tag January 15, 2007 5:38 PM   Subscribe

Mindfuck is a tag that has been used only once on askmefi. I'm truly amazed. More people should be using this in the human relations section, I think. I'm sure it would suit many other categories as well. If people were more attuned to what a mindfuck is . . . then they wouldn't be posting a lot of those human relationship questions, I guess.

How does the question tagged have anything to do with mindfuck at all? Unless my definition of mindfuck is totally screwed.

I think that you may have mistaken MeTa for your personal blog. It's a common mistake; no worries. Try not to do it again.
posted by SeizeTheDay at 5:47 PM on January 15, 2007

BTW, I think there should be a posting limit to MeTa. Once every six months should do. And there should be a six month wait before new people can post here. That might cut down on the "Oooh, I had a passing thought, but I can't make it past the ChatFilter requirement in AskMeFi and I don't have anything to link to for a MeFi post" posts here in MeTa.

There is a posting limit to MeTa, once a week.
posted by delmoi at 5:58 PM on January 15, 2007

Also this is Listener's first MeTa post. So your solution would accomplish nothing in this case.
posted by delmoi at 5:59 PM on January 15, 2007

Keep reading delmoi, though I do admit to being overly quick to criticize. But even MeTa posts have been scrolling off the front page a lot lately (of course, that stems from Matt's ancient decree to limit MeTa to 10 posts, which was around the time that Miguel was posting to MeTa once a day).

I must not care.
Care is the mind-fucker.
Care is the belittling breath that brings unwanted obligation.
I will face my cares.
I will tell them to fuck off and ignore them.
And when they have gone past I will turn the inner eye to see their path.
Where the cares have gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

Here's the Wikipedia entry for "mindfuck"... I don't get how the term applies to the poster's question at all.

Maybe the Listener is trying to mindfuck all of us with this strangely narcissistic post.
posted by amyms at 6:12 PM on January 15, 2007

Maybe he meant "MindFark."

Just because you CAN post something to MetaTalk doesn't mean you should.

Meta's the only reason I come here.

Maybe it was just some Mindforeplay with a little Mindheavypetting leading to Mindprematureejaculation.

But, will there be mindcuddling afterwards, or just mindrollingoverandfallingasleep?

Everytime I see 'Criss Angel: Mindfreak' on the digital guide for my cable box I think it says Mindfuck. That is all.

I too am truly amazed re: things tagged mindfuck and was just about to bring this up
posted by moift at 9:21 PM on January 15, 2007

Oh, sorry if I misunderstood the guidelines. I thought it was any chat about anything on this site. Sure looks like it. With all the dumb, insulting posts that crop up, I didn't think an extremely mildly amusing one about tags was out of line. No, I haven't mistaken it for my personal blog. My personal blog was full of vituperative, misanthropic diatribes.

Yes, the post about photography has nothing to do with mindfuck that I know of. Just seemed very odd, but a good tag.

On mindfucks and metafilter.

That's hackwork. Fifteen minutes with google. You want creepy, wait till I start doing biographies.
posted by cortex at 10:17 PM on January 15, 2007

Very little to work with there, sadly.

Though mefi, specifically, will both take care of and collapse onto itself, assuming metafilter can ever resolve itself, at least.
posted by cortex at 10:27 PM on January 15, 2007

Only if you can dress up the phrase "Metafilter will eat itself".

Will? Will!?

Anyway, sorry if I broke the rules. Tried not to. Guess it will get nuked if I did. Sorry if I was snotty there, too.

I feel the same way about the hurfdurfgasolineeater tag. I'd like people to be more conscious of the needs of end users, vis-a-vis the ease of finding nitro-burning funnycar action.

You know, I just noticed that (in the plaintext theme at least), the 'Metatalk Mission Statement' -- you know, the old blurb about what Metatalk is supposed to be for -- isn't there anymore on the front page of the grey. Wha happen? That's a bit unhelpful to noobs good citizens like Listener, who might quite reasonably assume that it's just a subsite for random chat.

Well, hell, now that you've backed off so gracefully, I don't have the heart to mock you. So instead I'll thank blenderfish for the introduction to Brainfuck, and respond to:

You want creepy, wait till I start doing biographies.

by pointing out that you'll have to work pretty hard to top tamim.

Wow, now that's a weird coincidence.

I was just daydreaming about an hour and a half ago about a little military adventure starring a man called Admiral Mindfuck. What are the odds?
posted by dreamsign at 6:28 AM on January 16, 2007

languagehat: that's frightening.

I'm suddenly struck by the urge to go and delete every comment I've ever made.
posted by empath at 7:05 AM on January 16, 2007

tamim is Pele, Stevie Ray, Shakespeare. You don't try to match him, you just do what you can in his absence.
posted by cortex at 7:16 AM on January 16, 2007

hfyU (hosted from), that is the perfect comment. I think that is exactly where extreme subwoofers belong so that the aficionados can get the maximum thrill. And hopefully, it'll be a final one also. :)

About They're just fucking with ya. I kind of thought so, but ever since I saw the reaction I laughed at that guy in poetry class (I really felt he had written a great parody!), I decide it's often better to just hold back. I know how cheap apologies are, having received many. And the circle of mindfuck is complete, apparently.
