Boston meetup this Saturday night January 17, 2007 9:37 AM Subscribe
Reminder and possible change of venue for Boston meetup this Saturday night.
If you guys wanna drive out to Worcester, we can get silly at my house, you can crash in several guest rooms, and I'll provide the midnite buffet.
Or I can just meet you in Boston somewhere.
I just need some entertainment. See, I've got this cranky 16-week old...

I'm a fan of the People's Republik in Cambridge (Red Line, natch, to Central Square) though I'm not sure what the crowd factor would be like.

Beanies!
I miss you Bostonianicans, but I've got a much-anticipated party in Nashua to go to that evening. Shucks.

It figures.

Avoiding a crowd on a Saturday night might prove difficult.
I suggest at least looking for a place that doesn't have live music; that will keep the volume down.
(Won't be making it; have other plans)

I like the idea of meeting at People's Republik. I have never been there before but the reviews I'm reading on-line are encouraging:
It's one of those dark, dingy bars with bartenders that look like they want to laugh at your beer order.
Don't go here if you are a poser. Only real intellectual types and artists nees apply.
Last time I was in this bar a man in the corner took off his leg and started playing it like an instrument.
A similar bar to the KGB bar in New York. (one of my old faves)
Stopped in for a drink and didn't regret it.

Are we married to this weekend? Because I will be out of town. Also, NEXT weekend, wimpdork will be on THIS coast, and we all know how hot she is.

As a beer-less option, Sunday the 21st is the monthly free day (12-5) at the MIT Museum, if folks would be around then and interested in that.
As a super-beer option, has anyone been to and developed an opinion on the Publick House in Brookline?

I like both options presented, The People's Republik and The Publick House. Usually I'd go for the one with more superfluous k's, but it seems they're equal on that front.

Publick House is good. They have a large selection of fine Belgian beer as well as some fine English, German and American choices. If you like beer you could hardly go wrong by choosing it. And their food isn't too shabby either.
Also, it's conveniently right off the C-branch of the Green Line.

Alternate meetup in the works here. Not to undercut this one, because hey, if you can make both, do so!

Another suggestion - because I'm hella lazy and it's across the street from my office - is that the new Institute of Contemporary Art recently opened and is quite pretty. They have a cafe; also, the Seaport Bar & Grill is nearby for beer and generally-unshitty appetizers.

Okay, listen up. We got less than 48 hours to figger this out, so I'm gonna take charge. Let's meet at the People's Republic in Cambridge. The bar is located at 876 Massachusetts Ave, between Harvard Square and Central Square. We'll meet at 7 PM Staurday night and hang until the buzz wears off. I'll bring my trusty camera.
So who's in?

I won't be there, but I'll be sending my emissary. And by "emissary," I mean, husband.
(And by "husband," I mean, Kattullus and not my secret husband, Johnny Depp.)

Cool. There will be at least two of us there then. I will wear a Santa hat so people can spot me.
This will be my first meetup. I hope some veterans will come to show me the secret handshake. I hope it does not involve fish or trousers.

I regret that I won't make it after all-- my baby boy is pre-teething, which means he's cranky, I haven't slept in 36 hours, and I'm covered in drool.
I hope to pop some Lithium and hit the rack by six.
Next time!
