Cool. When all the circles converge, it creates masturbation.

No shit. They could have found the right shape for this on Wikipedia. There's no excuse for this kind of sloppiness.

I sort of think putting boingboing right in the middle as well-balanced internet nirvana is ... sort of ... to put it nicely ... um ... unexpected.

Dave Faris: you didn't know that the ultimate goal of the internet is subway anagrams, plushie toys, DRM rants and papercraft?
posted by nathancaswell at 11:53 AM on February 23, 2007

boing boing is the nexus
the average that reflects us
in a hipster funhouse mirror
through a scanner clearer
that ultimately rejects us

the filter is a shotgun
blast of culture, hate, and fun
participitory by design
inclusively inclined
not the average, but the sum

I think it's a generally poor understanding of nirvana, since they have it as an overlap between schadenfraude, revenge, perversity, and sex. (So the Bush administration are Buddhists?)

Worst Venn Diagram Ever

And, speaking of schadenfreude, sometimes there's nothing I like better than singing---in my best early Wayne Newton voice--

Schadefreude, my darling,
schadenfreude...

to the tune of Danke Schoen while reading some call outs in the grey.
Given the lyrics of the original and the limited rhymes for -freude, however, I've found it hard to come up with much beyond that.

Other times, I do my regular impression of Bullwinkle as Elvis impersonator--
Well, bless my soul,
What's a matter with me ?

--complete with hiccup vocal.

posted by y2karl at 1:28 PM on February 23, 2007

Good, I'm not the only one who thought that, as a Venn Diagram, it made no sense. I thought for a second there I thought I didn't understand Venn Diagrams. Would have made more sense as an x/y axis, maybe? Maybe not.

Doesn't Schadenfreude have one more syllable than Danke Schoen? (As I don't speak German, this assumption is based only on my knowledge of their respective songs).

Yeah, but you can swallow the final syllable pretty well. And it's not like Wayne's rendering of "danke schoen" isn't exactly stellar German, either. Someone who didn't know better might think he just really appreciates some guy named Shane.

Good, I'm not the only one who thought that, as a Venn Diagram, it made no sense. I thought for a second there I thought I didn't understand Venn Diagrams. Would have made more sense as an x/y axis, maybe? Maybe not.

If it were based on actual data instead of some random blogger's arbitrary choices, it would have been best represented as a series of scatterplots, each representing two ranges that varied between complimentary and conflicting with each other.

NickDouglas is a member here, who used to be much more vocal. (though he commented on the 3rd of this month, related to another vallywag post) He's moved on to greener pastures, it seems. At least we got a shoutout.
