MeFi shoutout on tonight's Mythbusters April 18, 2007 9:30 PM   Subscribe

Speaking of asavage, did anyone else see the MeFi shoutout on tonight's Mythbusters? On the wall during one the post-myth summaries, "MeFi" was written in what looked like chalk on a green chalkboard. asavage mentioned that he'd shout the site out out in MeFi Podcast 3, but it sounded like that would only be for the old west show.

Is this something that I'd need a screencap posted by an attentive viewer to see a screencap of?

I'll look for it on the repeat in a couple minutes

I downloaded an episode from tonight (birds/boats, right?) but I don't see it in the background on their recap.

It was birds/boats, yes.

I think I saw it during the Tory/Kari/Grant segment.

If this works, I'm trading in my Tivo for a MeFiVo.
How do you pronounce THAT, cortex?

Very carefully, nell dew.

Wow. We're famous!

I don't think that's chalk though. It looks more like tape in the shape of letters in the second pic above. Makes me wonder if ASav (we're on a nickname basis now, doncha know) posted it as a secret shoutout and is quietly lurking over MeTa to see if we noticed.

BTW this has nothing to do with Metafilter but that episode had a hilarious scene with Adam and a net which I made into a stupid animated GIF. He looked like he was really having fun there.

I change the channel anytime Kari is on-screen.

Cool, nonetheless.

Neat. I wish "MeFi" were my name. (And did you see the pronunciation key in the lower left of the frame? Me Feye!)

How the hell do you people notice this stuff?

Watching the show now -- it appears quite a few times on the backdrop board. I'm pretty sure I'd've have noticed even if I hdan't been looking for it. Kinda cool that Adam got the shoutout in before the Wild West episode... I wonder if it'll stay as part of the backdrop in future shows.

That's funny crush, 'cause I change the channel anytime Kari is not on-screen.

So does this mean that Metafilter is famous now? Cause then we can add it to the celebrities on Metafilter thread below this one. Or can we?

I have a feeling that if Kari takes part in the potential Mefi Old West shoutout, it might be with "M E F I" black-markered across the knuckles of the hand she uses to flip off the camera.

60% of the way through that sentence I was certain you'd gone off the deep end and were about to start writing Metafilter themed Mythbusters erotica. This is what happens when I wake up before noon.

I had another bizarre thought while watching last night - there was an AskMefi thread a few months ago about the whole 'is x object contained in y object takes flight, does y object weigh less?' issue and so I thought "I wonder if Adam or Jamie has a sock puppet and that question was posted by them to get feedback for the show?"

crush-onastick writes "I change the channel anytime Kari is on-screen.

I considered doing this as well because teh hottness and unavailability is UNBEARABLE.

If you recall the podcast interview of Mefi's own Adam Savage, the one thing he said that he liked about Metafilter is that conversations did not devolve into a Kari love/hatefest as they do on other sites when the Mythbusters show is discussed.

Keep up the good work dragging us down, boys.

Things were slow at work today, so:

Myth or Glory
Now every cheap nerd strikes a bargain with the world
And ends up knockin’ Kari, that myth-attackin’ girl
M E F I black-markered across the knuckles of her hands
The hands that slap those geeks around 'cause they don't understand how

Myth or glory becomes just another story
Myth or glory becomes just another story

And every gimmick hungry host digging gold from cable shows
Asks too many questions ‘bout the wild west so old
But I believe in this and it's been tested by research
MeFi on a blackboard don’t replace a Google search

Myth or glory becomes just another story
Myth or glory becomes just another story

In their dingy warehouse on that dingy Frisco street
Adam’s busy plannin’ for the myths that must be beat
Whenever I see Jamie I just sing that Walrus song
But if Kari’s not your kind you’ve been on the net too long

Myth or glory becomes just another story
Myth or glory becomes just another story

Gonna drop some Mentos
Into the Diet Coke
It’s gonna travel over mountains
It’s gonna travel over seas

We're gonna test those legends
We're gonna test if they’re true
We're gonna see what’s busted
‘Til we get cancelled

We're gonna test those legends
‘Til we get cancelled

Myth or glory becomes just another story
Myth or glory becomes just another story

Myth or glory becomes just another story
Myth or glory becomes just another story

"No Hunting"?

No Hunting MEFI?

I almost closed the browser window on that Ask a Ninja link when the theme song came on, but then I had to close it when I saw asavage's hair.
