Shirt Swap? June 2, 2007 7:10 AM   Subscribe

My MetaFilter shirt just arrived and boy is an American "large" ever big compared to my Canadian frame. Does anyone have a "medium" that's too tight for them that they'd like to swap?

If you do my email is in the profile, I'm sure we can set something up easily. The shirt is gorgeous and never been worn.

I'm getting pretty tired of these veiled jabs at meatbeard and jabba and myself. We exercise, we eat sensibly, but the weight just won't come off. You people can be so cruel.

Did you wash it a few times yet? It'll probably shrink.

I was just about to say the same thing. Wash it in hot, hot water.

Who are you? Do I even know you?

What's your name?

The shirt is gorgeous

We're certainly watering down that word.

That's weird because my large shirt seems too small. And I'm only 5'6" and weigh 155 pounds.

" I'm only 5'6" and weigh 155 pounds."

Try a salad, tubby. Jesus.

Thats wierd. My medium shirt is just right, except for the wimpy bright color. And I'm 5'10', 160 lbs and brown-skinned - which doesn't go well with the wimpy bright color at all...you can just have my shirt for free.

I'm not willing to ship anything but I'm actually serious.

If anyone in San Francisco wants to swap me something (in the spirit of swapmeat) they feel is worth $5-$10 for my medium Metafilter shirt, email is in profile.

Oops, ignore my email then.

So the shirts are good for off-size, color blind USians?

Dear AskMe: Mine's an XL and a tag snug... and I'm Canadian! What gives?

Note: My weight is not up for discussion.

You people can be so cruel.
We can? Thanks! *Goes on pinching spree*

I'm 5'9 and last I checked around 150, and I wear a size medium.

What's wrong with me?

I am white, American, and from Rhode Island if that makes a difference.

Please advise.

No takers eh? For those who are curious, I'm 5' 11' and 175lbs. Mediums are often too tight, but the only time large is too big is when it's a shirt from a trade show. If I don't hear any offers I'll try washing it in hot hot hot water.
posted by furtive at 4:08 PM on June 2, 2007

5'8", 148lbs right now. Mediums fit me just fine.
posted by five fresh fish at 5:05 PM on June 2, 2007

IMO, I could stand to lose about 8lbs...

Mine shrank a lot the first time I washed it. I thought it was going to be way too big, but it's perfect now. The color's still too bright, though.

So this just proves that deep down, every MetaFilter thread is a FatWar™ eagerly hoping to be brought to life.
posted by Rhomboid at 5:47 PM on June 2, 2007

Furtive: Have you tried washing it normally first? I'd try that before immediately going for "hot hot" water.
posted by CitrusFreak12 at 5:50 PM on June 2, 2007

And thanks for the advice guys. I'd mark them all as the best anwer but alas, wrong section.

Convert your height and weight to metric and try it on again. It should fit better, or at least hang loosely in a more logical fashion.

If only I could convert the color...

I think I might try Rit.

If I had one of these shirts, I don't think I could ever see it or wear it without thinking of that guy up in the corner with the meat hovering over his shoulder.

I hope that guy goes away soon...
posted by flapjax at midnite at 10:37 PM on June 2, 2007

And I feel it, bardic. It used to be that 5'8" was average height. I think it's very likely a fair bit higher these days.

Don't lie to yourselves... Canadians are just as fat.

I've updated firefox, seen my physician, dumped the bitch, etc, and I now wearing my medium sized shirt. It all makes sense now, since apparently I'm short. Thanks bardic!

New question: Should I feel badly that my MetaFilter shirt was created using child labor? Also, I heard that the worker was paid only in avocado rolls and giftcards. Should I continue to wear my shirt with geeky pride?

Sometimes the simple solutions are the best. You have McDonalds in Canada, right? Put your shirt on, sit down at your nearest McDonalds and start eating. When the short fits exactly the way you want, stop. Simple.
