Considering it took me 3 hours to get to work yesterday, the 1.5/2 hours from Washington Heights seems like a cake walk.

I'm gonna make this one. Since someone already brought out the Warriors ref, that's totally going to be the length of my trip...though I'm not starting all the way up at Van Cortlandt Park, I'm still starting from the Heights, and that's close enough.

In my my most wonderful dreams, I would go decked out in a fringed leather vest, headband and kneehigh, moccasin styled boots. hermitosis or jonmc would be there taunting me with three bottles on his fingers and a badass leather coat.

I got on the wrong train late one night after leaving my girlfriend's apt. in bklyn. I was new to the city and didn't know that the trains run different after midnight. Instead of going back to nyu, I ended up riding all the way to Coney Island at 2am. I thought I would just ride the train until it reached the end of the line and turned around instead of getting off at some stop and getting more lost. Problem was that the train stopped at CI and they turned the freakin lights off.
I wandered around the subway yard and finally found some old dude who helped me get on the right train back to the city. Oh to be young and dumb again in NY.

psssst! some of us live on the A train in upper manhattan and know that we need to get on the A and transfer to the D at 125th and ride the D straight to Coney Island. It was a reference to those few mefites (i.e. me) who live way up there.

Are you sure that anything will be open on 9/8? Astroland and Coney Island Park both seem to be closed that day.
I ask because I have promised myself that I'm going to make it down before everything is closed up. So I either have to venture down tomorrow, next weekend or wait until this meetup. But, yeah - I want to be sure stuff is open, yo!

What makes you think they are closed? The websites for both Astroland and the Coney Island Wonder Wheel say they are open weekends in September and October.

Astroland (which includes the Cyclone) and Dino's (for the Wonder Wheel) is pretty much the bulk of Coney Island these days. Having other bits shut down will only add to the decrepit charm of the place. Plus it won't be so crowded.

okay, seriously - when I looked at Astroland's website yesterday it didn't say anything about any dates beyond 9/3. Or perhaps I was tired. Cool. I'll be buying my Fung Wah ticket this week unless any other Bostoni area Mefites want to carpool.
