HAI GUISE WHATS GOINGON THIS CHANNEL??? Um, I mean, does anyone want to have an SF Meetup? I'm thinking Friday, August 31 - a little diversion for us nonburners, plus people can send me off into the Three-Day Novel Contest [http://3daynovel.com/]!

I'd prefer "after work" (ie, about 6 PM on), someplace along the N line, but I haven't given it much thought. I'm looking at the last couple of photo sets from Bob and realizing I don't even recognize you people anymore!

There's a 3daynovel? yeesh. And I thought Nano was rough.
posted by juv3nal at 1:07 PM on August 21, 2007

I reckon I could actually make it to this one! So count me in, pretty much wherever.
posted by rtha at 2:25 PM on August 21, 2007

Ooh, I'd like that. I'm in favor of "after work" too, and somewhere that's friendly to under-21 people.

Wait, what?

I'll come down from the wild frozen north(bay) if something gets going. I too would prefer after 6pm.

Having just arrived in SF from Chicago, I'd love to meet the West Coast crew (as it were). Count me in!

I'm in.
If you are coming from the East, though, remember that the bridge is closing that night. Take BART.

I thought "another Bay Area meetup already?" then realized this is much much easier to get to thankyouverymuch.

Thinking of the N-line, & the under 21 crowd, um, how about Tart to Tart in the Inner Sunset?
posted by Pronoiac at 1:23 PM on August 22, 2007

Tart to Tart sounds great to me.

Tart to Tart on Irving, 7 PM, Friday, August 31 it is!

By the way, for those who are not familiar with that area, there are approximately umpty zillion restaurant options for those who believe they should eat something "good for them" - whatever that means - before they have dessert.

I'll probably come up if a) parmanparman's RWC meetup doesn't end up on the same day, and b) you all plan to stay long enough for stragglers, because I always get to these things late.
posted by tangerine at 11:24 AM on August 24, 2007

I'll be there! Woo Hoo!
posted by Doublewhiskeycokenoice at 5:29 PM on August 24, 2007

It looks like parmanparman's meetup is now merged with this one, so .... bigger crowd, more fun?

I want in! Is everyone still meeting at the tart place?

Also of note: we might have a far-flung MeFite in our ranks.

I'm still new and would like to meet some of you eventually, but I kinda sorta hafta go to my friend's going-away party before she jets off to China.
posted by wintersweet at 10:10 AM on August 28, 2007

Would love to go, but the bay bridge is closed. Anybody from the East Bay would need to take BART, then a bus/cab to get to the avenues, and return back to BART station by midnight to catch the last train home. Think I'll unfortunately have to pass. :(
posted by iamkimiam at 12:27 PM on August 28, 2007

BART is open 24x7 while the bridge is closed.
posted by kcm at 4:08 PM on August 28, 2007

You wouldn't take a bus from BART to this meetup - it's right on the N line, part of the criteria for choosing the spot. It just means going upstairs in the tunnel to pick up one of the most frequent-running trains in the city.

I'm not saying people from the East Bay have to come - I don't go to the East Bay events, myself - but in this case it's only marginally less convenient that just changing BART trains.

ah sweeeeet! THanks for the info!
posted by iamkimiam at 7:11 PM on August 28, 2007

NB: Check 511.org for details, because I think BART's only going to be running hourly overnight, which could be annoying if you're not expecting it.
posted by wintersweet at 8:32 PM on August 28, 2007

This is still on!

(And BART runs across the Bay every 20 minutes til after midnight.)

(Also, see DaShiv snaps for pix of people you might want to keep an eye out for. This is me from a meetup back when dinosaurs roamed the earth - I will be sans glasses and with shoulder-length hair but otherwise unaltered.)

Bummer: New comments here aren't showing up on the Recent Activity page.

I'll wear a blue t-shirt.

Ok, I want to try to make it. Can somebody tell me which BART station in SF I get off at to transfer to the N-line? And then where do I get off the N-line? Somebody break it down for me, and I'll be there! :D
posted by iamkimiam at 3:01 PM on August 31, 2007

Any stop from Embarcadero to Civic Center to change to the N line. Tart to Tart is on Irving between 7th and 8th.
posted by caitlinb at 3:41 PM on August 31, 2007

Tip: Transfer at Embarcadero for best results, since by the time the N gets to Civic Center it's often jam-freakin'-packed with people fleeing downtown after the end of the workday.

It was an excellent meet-up, we did not meet at a bar because Britta was underage, and instead had a wonderful night talking and reminiscing about our favorite posts. We even created the first-ever Metafilter Users Podcast. Which I hope Pronoiac can post shortly.

I got home from work later than I expected, and my dog was so damn grateful for company that I couldn't bring myself to drive up to the city and leave him alone again for the rest of the evening.

I'm sorry I missed you all. I guess I'll have to hear the excommunication story some other time.

A shout-out from parmanparman.

Thanks for the send-off!

Where are the rest of the pictures and the podcast? :) Anyway, the boy and I had a great time...still working on getting him to register, though.
posted by dreamyshade at 9:49 AM on September 4, 2007

Yeah ... I think I need that podcast to prove I went .. or something.
posted by R343L at 8:19 PM on September 4, 2007

I don't know about the rest of you, but I had about five cups of coffee that day. I imagine that my portion of the podcast is either unintelligibly frenzied, or will need to be played back in 1/4 time.

Regardless, it was big fun meeting y'all and I look forward to the next event!

For consistency, I think I'm going to request some more voicework from parmanparman.

I've been dealing with an usually dumb computer or two lately.

I checked, & the car story is pretty legible at full speed. :)

I can record some stuff and send it over, I was feeling a bit rough. Where are picture, btw?

*clears throat*
Minimal podcast. Really minimal. I'll write a few words for that over my lunch break & make it a MeTa post.
Pictures - I haven't properly tagged them or put them in sets, though I hope to do that tonight. Along with, uh, captions, dates, that sort of thing.
