Trailer Park City Meet-up August 20, 2007 12:00 PM Subscribe
Thus spake the Podcast! I have quit my all-too-important job in public radio and am moving this Friday, Aug. 24, to Redwood City, CA to take the helm of a new national daily radio show there. Any MeFites privy to Redwood City for a meet-up? Bob's Donuts, et al...
I'm jonesing and will drive up to meet y'all from Santa Cruz if possible. Pick your date!

You left a gig in public radio? Who are you, parmanparman Rockefeller?
Congrats, I hope your new gig suits you.

Oh, and please don't hesitate to ping me with any practical questions about life in the RWC. Life's too short to waste time trying out bad taquerÃas.

"Bay Aryans" didn't seem like a good way to go. Bay Areans, maybe?

I could make it up there, but I don't know too much about Redwood City.
How about Bayerites?

Anyway, I'm good for weeknights and most upcoming weekends, and could help come up with a location. Bar, or restaurant?

As I said, I am totally new to the area. Can anyone suggest a place to meet?

The meetup in San Francisco a week later is just much closer to me. Sorry!

Well, there are some nice restaurants in the downtown area, some with patios (Redwood City is warmer than SF, so it's nice to be outside in the summer).
I could recommend Milagros, (the food is only okay in my opinion but a lot of people love it, and the drinks are pretty good, and it has a nice patio with heaters), or City Pub (I've really only had drinks there, but it's hugely popular).
There is also an awesome divey kind of bar in downtown called the Broadway Cocktail Lounge which has a good juke box and sometimes has live music (cover band kind of stuff, but not awful).
The Little Fox Theater has a live blues jam every Wednesday that's kind of fun, and there's usually a lot of space upstairs to hang out (although they cover up the pool table, which sucks). Unfortunately it's so noisy that whenever I meet friends there, we tend to bail early and head to a different bar where we can chat better.

Hey Parman!
Is that your real email address in your profile?! I'm hoping to get in touch with you. If you have time, would you be willing to get in touch? My (real) email is in my profile.

I'm a big fan of outside, and I'm guessing that parmaparman might find it quaintly interesting that for much of the year we can pretty much guarantee that the weather will be fine no matter what. So, sticking with padraigin's list for simplicity's sake, how about Milagros?

This coming weekend (if that's what you mean, AV) isn't great for me either but most of next week is fine so far.
Parmanparman, you're the main act here. You tell us what date works for you, and then we'll get all whiny about it till you get tired of listening, at which point you declare the date fixed and put it on the sidebar and the rest of us will just have to cope.

RWC meetup? That would be awesome as I live here. Granted I hardly *post* on mefi but you all won't mind if I come I would think.

Well, in that case, AV, this weekend isn't entirely hopeless for me. Saturday I'm booked during the day, and Sunday is cram-packed from dawn till midnight, but Saturday night's all right.
Though I suspect parmanparman might find it a bit overwhelming to venture out on his second day in town to hang out with a bunch of imaginary friends.

I'm pretty clear this weekend and next (Labor Day weekend), mostly available the weekend after that, and going camping the weekend of the 14-16th.

I was going to think about doing it this weekend. However, my flight was delayed 10 hours from Dulles, and then when I did land at SFO, four hour's late, I learned that JetBlue had redirected my luggage including all of the clothes I have in the world to San Juan, PR. So, maybe after Labor Day?

That sounds awful. How soon are they likely to get your luggage?

My luggage is not here yet. I also got a really interesting letter (and follow-up e-mail) today from the Archbishop of Pittsburgh (I'll post it on the blue once I clear it with Matt) that I have been excommunicated for attending the ordination of 8 women as Catholic priests on the Allegheny river last August. This is turning into the most wonderful weekend. I am thinking of becoming an Elk.
Can we maybe merge the meet-ups and all meet in San Francisco on August 31? According to Jessamyn, I am a great guy to meet-up with, but God, I am crap at organizing on the internet.

I feel rather sad at not being Catholic anymore.

That is too bad! I didn't realize the Catholic Church actually bothered to excommunicate anymore (except in high profile cases). I'm sorry to here that.
I was thinking of going to the SF meet anyway, so .. hopefully you'll have clothes (that aren't bought in haste!) by then.

It's probably a first for one meet-up to relo to another, but in this case, I think it's appropriate. I'll tell you all the wonderful story of my excommunication when I see you.

Looking forward to hearing the story! I might incorporate it into my 3-day novel - is that OK?
(Don't worry - in 5 years of doing the contest, I've never produced anything good enough to show anyone else.)
