Stood up at the meetup? September 6, 2007 11:06 PM   Subscribe

What happened, Tucson?

As Snyder has already noted, we showed up at the Red Garter at 7ish today and never saw a sign of any other Mefites. Was there another group that we somehow missed? While I think we had a pretty damned good conversation, a two-person meetup is not exactly an inspiring turnout.

Oh, I'm so embarrassed. I got home, got ready, had 20 minutes to kill, sat down with a book, and fell asleep. I woke up fully dressed just a few minutes ago. I'm sorry!

Like I've always said, you just can't trust people from Tucson. Lyin' scumbags, each and every one of 'em!

Sorry, I was pulling a rig from Tuscon to Tucumcari, Tehachapi to Tonapah.

Aw, carsonb, it's okay. I guess we really only did have four solid-looking yesses, so two really isn't too disappointing. We were just worried there were other people there that we didn't see.

Cheers, Snyder! Metafilter Tucson: a somewhat resounding success!

Devil's Rancher, I love you. I always wondered what that friggin' line was in Willing. Now I know!

Maybe they made that wrong turn at Albuquerque.
I know. Wrong State.

Hey, at least you were two. I was all alone at my Paris meetup.

Hey, this happened to me and gsteff in DC! Except for that two other mefites actually did show up but we didn't have a big enough sign...

I was alone in Chicago, too.

I'm all about the somewhat resounding successes! I'm just glad there wasn't a comical sitcom mix-up of the "You were there? But we were there! Doh!" proportions.

Maybe we should have another metup, we can report growth of 50% or more.

But yeah, it was not a waste of time. A good time was had by all, so that's why I'd be up for another at some point.

I'm so sorry I didn't make it. I tried to finish work in time to go, but I didn't get done until around 8:30. I figured that would have been too late.

Just two of us made it to the Albuquerque meetup, as well. With these mid-sized cities, there's usually just not quite enough mefites to have a decent meetup. A regional meetup might work (though not for Albuquerque, I guess, as the other large cities nearby aren't nearby), but those are hard to organize and there's limited interest in going to so much effort, anyway.

One thing that might work is planning and scheduling a meetup far in advance that is a "Metafilter event" that also works, functionally, like a regional meetup with those in the region being the most inclined to participate.

Devils Rancher, your head is looking a little stoved in, but I'm glad to see you are still on your feet.

Sorry 'bout the derail, but is that not simply the greatest country song ever? I can't not sing along, and it always makes me well up just a little.

If you do it on a Saturday, I'd probably drive down from Phoenicia Tempe.

Bummer! I don't know how I missed that there was a meetup tonight, I've gotta check MeTa more often... I guess I probably couldn't have gotten off of work anyway -- but here's one more Tucosn mefite. Next time.

(Ooh, interesting thing happening with that messed up html line break being inserted there. I have no idea what's up with that. I typed that exactly as you see it but with a carriage return before the following opening parantheses.)
