January 2008 Distance/Calorie Challenges now up!

(Posting this in the grey for January for those MeFites who aren't yet members of Runner+.)

I went ahead and listed the distance and calorie challenges for January up at the Runner+ site, as 2008 is well on its way for many of you (pj_rivera is out traveling and sequential is probably doing the same).

These challenges are open to any MeFite - you don't need to have Nike+ to participate. Hope to see you there!

I won both challenges in December, which hopefully will never happen again, as I'm pretty damn slow (e.g., my goal for 2008 = sub-10 min. miles). If I do sweep January, I shall have to make rude noises in your general direction (whatever that may be). So don't let me win! >:)

I'm away traveling this month, so the pressure's off people. That's no excuse to slack off, though.

Good luck with those resolutions!

So I can do this even if I don't have a nike ipod thingy? I swear I track all my miles (pretty obsessively). I can't sign up from this computer because it doesn't allow Flash, but it's pretty self-explanatory?

Actually, I did sign up. Fun.

Aw man, OmieWise is going to kick our butts.

Is that true? I don't log that many miles. What are the monthly totals usually like? I can't see them for lack of Flash. If my miles are a big outlier I won't participate, I don't want to take the fun out of the competition.

I was just joking (although you will kick my butt, but so will most everyone else competing). You won't take the fun out of it. Looking at the results from past months, the monthly totals vary pretty wildly among participants, so don't sweat it. The winners seem to be mostly in the low 100s, although sequential hit 160 miles one month.

Need a challenge, pokey? Is that what you're saying? I'm looking at you, longdaysjourney!

Wahey! I'm up for it.... don't have Nike+ so you may notice my mileages are strangely exact - not cos I stop dead on the end of a mile, just cos I'm timing it and assuming I've run at my standard speed (like longdaysjourney, I am a habitue of the 10 minute mile - go, tortoises!). Promise I'll be as accurate as I can!

Ah! Or alternatively I will be measuring my routes on runstoppable.com for improved accuracy (just earned myself an extra .9 of a mile by measuring properly - hooray!)

I'm not going to be much of an opponent either, because I'm just restarting Couch to 5k and I'm taking it easy. I got a stress fracture last time.

Assuming I avoid the same fate, this will be fun!
