My dog says she wants to lick your face. I hope you don't mind. February 27, 2008 3:25 PM   Subscribe

Okay, so it looks like it's time for another Crissy Field meetup so that my puppy can attend and run circles around all of you.

She's still never been to Crissy Field. She wants to go. Suggestions on a good date and time...?

Pretty much any weekend starting the 2nd weekend in March would be good for me. 1 - 4 worked pretty well last time, and segued nicely into beer and dinner.

Your dog can lick my face, but I hope she's not the jealous type - I plan to ogle a few birds while I'm there.

Good lord, you ::carefully sidesteps any naming controversies:: San Francisco residents have meetups insanely often. Which is a good thing!

Perhaps we could combine this with pancakes.
posted by needs more cowbell at 7:44 PM on February 27, 2008

Well, in May we could always do the Mt. Tam pancake hike...

Last I heard they were temporarily closing Chrissy Field for renovation due to a severe infestation of grass sharks.

I don't know why they do that. You're usually fine if you just stay on the dirt paths, though I hear they've been known to leap over narrower trails to nab small animals or children.

Which - this being San Francisco - nobody seems to mind very much. Only the tourists or noobs make a fuss over it.

Anyway. I'd rather have an infestation of grass sharks than a plague of Tenderloin rock gobblers, any day.

I thought they were closing the field because it was grass shark breeding season? The field's where they do their courtship displays - it's kind of cool to stand at the edge of the grass and watch them gambol about. Gotta watch your shoelaces, though.

Anyway, count me in for another meet-up.

Tourist or not, a bite from one of those critters caused a 24 stay in the ER the day before we were due to leave the country. But it was worth it!

Tenderloin rock gobblers

I don't know what this is, but if I ever start a hair metal band, I suspect this will be the name of my first album.

With röck döts, naturally.

It was a rock.. GOBBLER!

What are these grass sharks you speak of? Either my metaphor detector is really off or my Google-fu is really not up to par as I can't find references to them anywhere.

You know what a graboid is, Leon?

What you really wanna watch out for are Mission snappers. They eat fixies.

How about March 23rd? 1pm at Crissy Field Center?
posted by rtha at 9:18 AM on February 28, 2008

March 23 sounds good. I could do it sooner if anyone else is up for it. Got more free time on my hands suddenly... wheeeee.

MeFi Easter Egg Hunt + meetup at Crissy Field? Better include the bunnies over at Metachat then; as someone needs to *ahem* set out the eggs....

You do all know March 23 is easter, amirite?

March 23 works for me! Anybody know of a nice class SF outcall dog? I'd like a MBFE.

Uh, yeah! Of course! I mean, that's the day when we throw earless chocolate bunnies to the grass sharks, so yeah! The Catholic Church totally stole this holiday from us. We were here first.

I'm in for the 23rd.

Sure! I'll show up less than three hours after the meetup this time.

Ambrosia Voyeur: something like this? And what's a MBFE?
posted by needs more cowbell at 1:53 PM on February 28, 2008

Sounds like fun! I can bring my dog, although being 1/2 black lab and 1/2 devil, she has a tendency to try to eat small (like pug / chihuahua sized) dogs, or at least kind of beat them up. (She'll be OK if I'm around though.)

I found an abstract here about MBFE. AV, I suggest keeping enough peroxynitrite around to keep the catalytic rate constant up around 3 × 10-3.

needs more cowbell: exactly! I can't very well show my face at this meetup without a trim-lookin' $40 bitch, can I? I'm sure Lynn's dog is great and all, but I want my licks to fee llike they mean something.
posted by Ambrosia Voyeur at 5:03 PM on February 28, 2008

I will TOTALLY rent my dog out for cold hard cash. She's okay with it.

She'll lick your face but she'll be thinking of me.

I think Crosbie and I will show up, but I've been wrong about that sort of thing before.

Pah. I'm gonna hang out with the SoCal kids, 'cause you've decided to hold yet another meetup on a weekend when I'm working in Pebble Beach! *sulks*

Ooh... I'm gonna be in SF that day.

Can I come? (assuming I'm not still jetlagged)

Ambrosia Voyeur: funnily enough, I'm dogsitting for two very classy dogs that weekend. Unfortunately they're both known for their escape-artist antics, so I can't rent one to you. But I'll probably be there.

You guys know that it's BYOBW Sunday, don't you?

I thought that was gonna be Bring Your Own Boxed Wine, but this is even better!

I'm headed to BYOBW afterwards. That's 5pm while this meetup is at 1pm.

junesix, I believe we (me and gingerbeer, that is) will also be going to BYOBW. It's around the corner from our house it it seems churlish to not attend.
posted by rtha at 12:22 PM on March 22, 2008

I probably won't be at Crissy Field, since we've decided to do some sort of secular Easter-ish thing after all. But I might show up at BYOBW with parents and dog.

Followup question: never having been to a meetup before, how do I spot everyone?
posted by The Shiny Thing at 10:38 AM on March 23, 2008

There'll be a group of us hanging around outside the Crissy Field Center (not the same as the Warming Hut - there was some confusion the last time we did this). Some of us will have binos around our necks. I'll try to remember to make a sign. Otherwise, walk up to random groups of people and ask if they're friends of Matt's.

See you there.

Ambrosia and contraption and I are trying and failing to lay waste to the Upper Haight. We'll be there soon.

I'm hanging out in front of the centre. Is there anywhere in this town that doesn't have free wifi?
posted by The Shiny Thing at 12:57 PM on March 23, 2008

Oh, what a lovely meetup. Happy dogs, walk on the beach, a snack at the Warming Hut.

We didn't make it to BYOBW, because we were too lazy to walk three blocks. Yes. Sad. But we sat in the backyard with our housemates and had cocktails, so all was not lost.

Pix up later.

I hope the pictures feature my dog more than me, I'm SO tired today I just looked in the mirror and terrified myself. Zoe however, is always photogenic, and she's currently totally unconscious after a happy afternoon of sand-running, people-meeting and Doberman-chasing. She says thanks for a fun afternoon. :)

Oh, and I owe ya a beer, quietgal. :)

gingerbeeeeer! Not failing! Funning! it was Jesus who failed us. This is your easter sermon. Heh heh. Actually, considering that later I was given a huge, overflowing milk crate of ritzy liquor by an SF friend who *baffled laughing* gave the stuff UP, I guess Jesus used his guiding hand to bring me back to the flock in that whole turnaround thing he likes to do. Thanks for the easter basket via the spammer who'd rather take GHB, Jesus. Woot. He is risen!

Yeah, who knew that Haight Street stripper-wear stores closed for EASTER??!?? And what if you really really really need those 10 yards of fun fur for your last-minute Easter bonnet repairs? Huh? Did they think of that when they closed for Easter?

Nice to see the Crissy Field Gang again and meet the world's fastest wiener dog. Also our new friend from Oz by way of Singapore - have a wonderful stay in the USA and a safe trip back home, Shiny Thing!

I'm totally looking forward to a beer with both of you - in SF, Singapore, or some other port of call. Cheers!

She's been in doggie jail for weeks while I've been out of town. Man, I miss that funny little creature.
