Surely-previously-requested Favorites pony: Any reason the little plus signs on the main pages don't change to minus signs for favorited posts?

I'm wondering why those don't exhibit the same behavior as the comments plus/minus signs, even after refreshing the page.

Sometimes I forget whether or not I've favorited a thread I liked and rather than having to re-enter the thread to find out whether or not I did, a visible indicator that it's already a favorite would help.

I know I can click and be reminded if it's already a favorite, but it seems like it would be pretty easy to implement this (very glib, considering I have absolutely no idea what that would entail).

They do. Or, they're supposed to.

It's a pain in the ass to query the favorites database on every pageview of MeFi front pages, so we don't do it. It's not a big deal to click it twice -- you'll get an instant notification that you already added it.

Oh, I see. They turn back into pluses when you reload the page. Never noticed that before.

Makes sense, Matt, thanks. I guess there had to be a reason, since it seemed so trivial.

Apparently this is nitpicking day, which is good I suppose. Might as well be today.

I bet this post ends up with the record for most favorite-unfavorite action.

Spiderskull, it's technically National Pedantry Day, but only in the United States.

The real answer is because it is mean to take back a promised favorite. MEAN.
