Say! How about a Los Angeles meetup? March 3, 2008 9:07 AM   Subscribe

It's about time for another LA meetup, wouldn't you say?

I'm gonna suggest the evening of March 27th because I spun around and that's where my finger landed, and I'm going to do my darnedest to convince you all that this shindig ought to be had somewhere in the valley. Y'all might not agree, so throw your suggestions on out here.

I was just going to suggest one on the east side - I think LA should have separate meetups for the west and east side. Going west from Highland Park, I may as well be flying to Portland...
posted by Lillitatiana at 9:30 AM on March 3, 2008

Haha. Well, we have informal Westside meetups all the time, because we're all awesome over here. But I was just goading Spacekitty about getting together again soon (maybe for foursquare).

I prefer the west side, partly because I live here, partly because I think the most people show up. But if you've got a rock-solid valley location, lemme know.

Informal West side meetups, you say? Please, clue me in. I'm newly single (sigh) and needing some social interaction. (Nb.: Not a personals ad.)
posted by mykescipark at 10:14 AM on March 3, 2008

Hmm. Have more people shown up to the west side meetups because more people are on the west side or because that's just where the meetups were? I've only been to two, so I don't know these things.

Like Malta, the San Fernando Valley is where east and west meet! I'm partial to the Sportsmen's Lodge if anyone wants to get old-timey.

^Gets my vote. I mean, they've got movie posters signed by Hollywood cowboys, and I'm all for quiet legends. And cacti. I'm always down for cacti.

If you do it at the Sportsmen's Lodge, you'll have a better-than-usual chance of a wendell sighting. Just saying.

I'm not saying I can go because my flakey assed parents still haven't booked plane tickets yet, but were they to visit me, it would most likely be then.

I would totally do a Friday meetup if they're playing.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Juss Tuss is the best cover band in the entire eastern portion of the San Fernando valley! Possibly the entire San Fernando valley!

Well, Friday would be the 25th.

This place, beer and some grub nearby?

As far as an informal Westside meetup, well, I gotta talk to my girlfriend, but maybe the 15th or 22nd? Assuming good weather and everything, we might be up for some foursquare. Next weekend's tied up.
posted by klangklangston at 6:22 PM on March 3, 2008

The 25th is a Friday in April. If we were to do it in March, there's the 14th and the 21st. And then April. April's a bit iffy for me, though - don't know about you guys.
posted by katillathehun at 6:28 PM on March 3, 2008

I would definitely say it's time for another meetup. Sportsman's Lodge sounds good, and 14th or the 21st is doable with advance warning. (I hate missing the informal meetups 'cause there's only a coupla days notice.)

Sounds good to me. I just got a MySpace message from the band and they've added the dates to their page. They also sent along this message:
Come on out any time... you and your friends are always welcome. Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Peace and Love, Jusstuss
p.s. when you come out be sure to ask us for your free DVD...yes, really, FREE!!!

posted by katillathehun at 9:59 AM on March 4, 2008

Can't do the 14th based on my current health (or lack of it) situation. Was using the 28th as a 'deadline' to get my ass (and my doctor's) in gear regarding issues that were keeping me from trekking to L.A., but that was the soonest I could reasonably hope for. Gonna regret missing the Sportsman's Lodge (I have growing-up-in-the-valley-based history with that place that I was hoping to be the basic for hours of storytelling), but I'll keep up the effort to be "up to the trip" by the end of March and aim for the next meetup in April.

I've gotten some nibbles on foursquare.

Depending on how many of you are interested on the 14th (and whether or not davejay's attractive), we might do it on the afternoon of the 15th. I was gonna say the 22nd, but that looks like it'd cut out two of the reliable folks, and I don't want to do that.

If you're interested in further wesside foursquare action, send me an email with foursquare in the subject, and I'll knock together a mailing list. I might even start planning it more than a day or two in advance.

I can't believe I'm missing a meetup at the Moose! That's one of my old Wednesday night hangs! Daaang. Pet the swans for me. Don't get all drunk and push eachother in the water tho. :)

Which reminds me... I once did a jazz gig on the patio that's to the left of the front door... and as I was singing, a super drunk couple started dancing and fell RIGHT into that little man-made stream. I was trying so hard to keep singing and the band was trying so hard to keep playing while they drunkenly struggled to pull themselves out of it. My God that was the bestest gig ever.

Awesome. I'll be there.

But seeing as how I've never been to a MeFi meetup before, will there be a sign or some other admittedly geeky means of identifying the group? I mean, I don't mind introducing myself to random clusters of people, but that could take a while.
posted by chicainthecity at 9:45 PM on March 9, 2008

I... hmm. Well, I just checked out attendees' profile pics the first time I went to a meetup and then looked for a familiar face. But I suppose we could do a sign. I guess. Are there tables at this place? Speaking of, do I need to make reservations or anything like that? I've never been to this particular place. I just realized I should probably think about that.
