Zippity Huh?

Please explain the background on the Zippity Bop phenomenon from way back when.

There's nothing on the Wiki, and I can't figure it out from context.

Yes, I've been procrastinating.

This, for example, does not explain anything besides the fact that it seems like it was an annoying meme. What's the backstory?

Crappitylicious. It's just a word to fuck with people? Or did I just spell it wrong? Hm?

Also, it looks like it's just a weird thing that caught on, and that it's daveadams' fault.

(The timeline of ZB comments is discernable from a site search on zippity bop.)

As for their being nothing on the wiki, that could change if someone is feeling saucy. I have already touched my nose and declared "not it", so, you know.

Oh, believe me, I looked and looked through the search results. I just couldn't figure out what was going on! Just a bizarre cultural artifact, looks like.

Your first comment up there made me literally shout ARGH! and then laugh, though. Heh. It's been tormenting me, this Zippity Bop thing.

Seems like I might recall Chris-Kattan-as-David-Lee-Roth ejaculating similar nuggets of scat in an old and not very good SNL skit entitled Hey, Remember the 80's? alongside a half-man, half-goat hybrid portrayed by Jim Breuer at his most annoying.

I'm pretty sure it was a nonsensical phrase that a few people repeated a lot in the early days then it thankfully just died.

Sorry, I'm borrowing it. Did you not find the note or did that dissolve in the bathtub full of ice I left you in?

Anyway, it's currently busy helping me turn about 5 liters of cheap grain vodka into pee. It's fine. It's in this bucket with a bunch of tubes hooked up to it. I just daisy-chained it off of my liver.

loquacious: I just daisy-chained it off of my liver.

somehow, it makes total sense to me that livers would be FireWire devices. I wonder what would happen if you ran Mini-DV footage through it or used it as an input for GarageBand...

...I think it's a big pile of pointless shit.

"pancakes" were funny once, in a comment aaron made. "ponies" were funny a long time ago, and the baby jesus was funny once when someone first used it. Zippity-anything was *never* funny and frankly I don't understand why the hell it's even here, but it reminds me of pointless first posts and natalie portman comments on slashdot.

Heh. I know. Once it met critical mass after 10,000 members, everyone started getting mean and so they HAD to lighten it up by Zippity Bopping all over the place.

Was just coming back here to make a USB/Firewire joke about daisy chaining livers...

*plucks low-hanging fruit* I think it's more like a SCSI device, really.

The etymology of "daisy-chaining" predates modern computing, and has been used as a term in industrial and farming machinery for some time. Also, the weaving of daisy chains - which I suppose could be clover or dandelion flowers.

On that note: when was the last time you ever actually "dialed" a phone?

ZippityBop sounds like some cheap blog established to game search engines, or someone's failed attempt at creating a social networking site. Or a terrible catchphrase, a la Poochie.

You aren't even close to being as sorry as you would be if that had actually caught on.

I think it started off-site, so any real attempt to figure it out is going to be mostly pointless. It was definitely the fault of Dave Adams.

I wish we could say it was part of a general effort to lighten the mood at MetaFilter but it was just people behaving badly. I'd forgotten all about it which is why this account is still active. I'll kill it now.

I know the identity of DoublePostGuy.
