Followup: Irena Sendler is dead. May 12, 2008 8:15 AM   Subscribe

Followup to this post of mine: Irena Sendler has died at age 98.

I thought it worthy of mention, because she was such a significant unsung hero, but I didn't have enough content for another FPP. And the original FPP is closed for comments.

I missed the story the first time around. Thanks for this.

"The term 'hero' irritates me greatly. The opposite is true. I continue to have pangs of conscience that I did so little."

I learned about her here and was deeply impressed. I told a lot of people in my life about this wonderous human being. I added her to my stupid little "heroes" myspace section, where she has to splash about in the much with, oh I forget who, Susan Sontag and David Bowie or summat. But if she doesn't like the appelation "hero," I think that only leaves "angel."

I just heard about her death. Completely disproves the "Only the good die young" theory. A heroic woman.

I'm troubled by the idea tha metaTalk could become the dumping grounds for "I don't have enough stuff for a FPP, but let's post it anyway". (I don't mean this to disrepect the dead, only the living).

This has nothing to do with a dumping ground for skeletal posts to the front page, blue_beetle. It's a followup to a post that was already made, hence, already part of MetaFilter, and is a completely appropriate use for MetaTalk. I'm with piratebowling in not having seen it, and I'm glad to have it brought up here.

Seconding blue_beetle (including no disrespect to the subject of this super-weak obit post). This is not MetaFilter-related.

Your first sentence and the first part of your second sentence are contradictory. It's a skeletal, one link obit post for someone that happens to have been discussed here in years past. And this post isn't is not about the previous MeFi post; it is strictly about Irena Sendler. So it is not MetaFilter-related and most certainly does not belong on MeTa. I'm not objecting to follow-up posts, but doing them in MeTa when they're not MetaFilter-related is no good.

If this turns into a discussion about what is and what is not an acceptable MeTa follow-up post, then it will be worthy.

Agreed. This could have/should have been on the blue.

I don't mind doubles years apart, and there are enough SLYTs that a single-link obit with back-link to your previous meatier thread wouldn't have bothered me. For all that I'm an arbiter of what belongs where, of course. But wherever you should have posted it, thanks for posting, because I, too, missed her story the first time around.

My apologies to all those who think I ought to have posted this to the blue. I figure there'd be at least as many people who, if I had, would've complained that I ought to have posted to the gray.

Metafilter: Damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

No, I think you're wrong. I can't imagine anyone complaining about that.

Metafilter: Damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

When in doubt, use the Contact form to zap all 3 mods at once (they each get the email). They're usually ready with an opinion on how things'll go, html help, or wevs. And if they think your post won't fly it's like your own private deletion reason, hurts just as much though.

Personally, I think this should have gone to the green.

Q: Where do I post this?
A: Not the blue!
A: This is chatfilter|flagged!
A: I can taste colors.

But seriously people, I can taste colors and that makes me the best of the web which tastes very green.
