Tiny packages of hipsterific happy. May 20, 2008 8:44 AM   Subscribe

We all need hugs, it's true. But until we figure out a way to mail them, who'd be up for a sticker and/or button swap?

Surely there's enough creative people on this board with their own customized stuff that want to trade with other crazies to decorate laptops, instrument cases, jackets or bags.

Any advice for smooth running of said swap is also welcome.

Good idea! I'd participate.

And if I can make a suggestion, I'd make the swapsets be larger than 5 people. At least 10, or maybe more.

YES PLEASE.

That song's pretty great, Burhanistan.

Somehow I missed the word "swap" at the end of the sentence, and I clicked in horror, thinking you were suggesting emoticons on Metafilter.

(Here's a free-sticker link, and here's one of the old Mr. Yuk PSAs.)

I'm so happy! You people remember me! I thought that with the Ceiling Cat and the Rick Roll and the big FAIL, I had been totally replaced. I think I'm going to like it around here.

There's room for plenty of us iconic objects on Metafilter!

Oh, Hells yeah. Are we supposed to make the stickers/buttons, or are they to be purchased?

Are we supposed to make the stickers/buttons, or are they to be purchased?

I was hoping everyone had some that they at least had some personal connection to, whether you made yourself in your workshop, designed or had a friend design them for you and your bar/band/shop or bought them from said bar/band/shop. My three basic rules are 1) it must at least look cool, 2) not get me in trouble if I send it to someone under 18 and 3) not be blatant crass advertising (clever advertising, is okay). There's a lot of gray area here and I'm open to any discussion.

I have nothing to trade. But I like free stuff. Send me free stuff, and I'll send you a postcard with a confusing message on it. That's my best offer.

I would like a confusing post card, but I want to receive it without first sending anything.

Fine, fine. Email me your address.

I would just like a confusing post.

Oh.

I have band stickers, Katamari Damacy buttons and comic books that I would like to put in the mail for mefites.

Confusing would post like just I a.

Sorry. That was completely out of order.

HOHCRAP MeFi Music Swap due in six days.
Thanks for the reminder.

Also - stickers are a bit harder to procure than CDs. But it's a good idea?

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes! Count me in for whatever we swap! Metafilter has the coolest people on it. I can only imagine what we would get in a swap like this.

I wish I was a sticker-maker so I could be a sticker-trader.

I would like to send someone the excellent book "The Course of Modern Jewish History", by Howard Morley Sachar, 1958, once I am finished with it. Be forewarned, it is thick and dense and meaty. The first MefiMail to me with a postal address will get this in the mail some day soon.

Count me in. I'll swap some of my stickers...

This combines my love of sending things through the mail with the satisfaction of eliminating clutter from my HQ, so yes, will trade stickers, yes.

I like, I will make buttons to swap.

I have a deep seated hatred of stickers, so I would prefer to receive buttons, but I realise that this is a silly thing that I should get over, and that the stickers aren't really going to kill me slowly and painfully in my sleep. Really. But yeah, I'd prefer buttons

I would play. And I guarantee unusuality.

Okay, well, it looks like we've got enough to make a run at it, everyone who's interested send me a MeFi mail with your email address and we'll go from there.

If there was only some way to have a button maker at all the meetups. They had one of these at a party in the Timbuk2 store in SF along with old magazines and it was loads of fun.
posted by junesix at 3:04 PM on May 21, 2008

For all those who wish to swap but have nothing, I'm still (always!) giving away my stickers for free.
posted by wemayfreeze at 11:05 PM on May 21, 2008

Okay, I've sent out an email to everyone who sent me your address. If you haven't gotten anything from me, send me a MeFi mail, or if you want to sneak in at the last moment, do the same. Cheers all!

I was with you up until you said "not be blatant crass advertising" above. I was going to send special magnets that are branded with one of my websites' url, but I guessed that would be too crass.
posted by Dave Faris at 11:04 AM on May 23, 2008

Ahh, but Dave, I said clever advertising was okay. You're sure you won't join?
