Actually, mr_crash_davis, they're just bluffing. According to TESS, "Metatalk" is a trademark of one MetaLogic, Inc (registered 1995), and "Metafilter" is a trademark of some whacky British filtration company (first registered in 1948!).
Neither company has any web-presence that I can find (there are a few MetaLogics out there, but none are the same one that "Metatalk" is registered to).
