What cheer, SoutheasternNewEnglandTypeMeFites? What say you to a Providence, RI, meetup next Friday, October 3rd?
Say, at, like, Julian's (which stocks both food and booze) around 7:30pm-ish?

Huh ... I just noticed that. Well, it does seem to say that, but it is incorrect. They are most definitely open until 1:00AM (they're right across the street from my house). In fact, I don't think I've ever been there before 5:00pm.

Yeah, 5pm seems awful early for a place to close... that's when I start *thinking* about dinner.
I hereby express a tentative inclination towards a desire to think about where I stand on the issue maybe attending. Assuming I'm not too busy trying to fix our economy.
I was going to suggest maybe crossposting this to MeFightClub, but there's like what... three of us? So yeah maybe not.

I'd love to make it, but with Mrs. Plutor on night shift and a new adorable dog at home at all, it'd be a challenge next week. Another time!
xbonesgt: "um. I've never been to one of these; would I need to wear a nametag or a mask of cortex's face or anything?"
Those help, but just looking like a lost Internet person usually does the trick. I don't think I've ever asked a stranger "Are you from MetaFilter?" and got anything but a "yes".

I added the meetup to the calendar since the date appears uncontroversial. However, one thing to consider, if we do go to Julian's at 7:30 on a Friday we'll be going at the prime restaurant time which means 1. We'd have to eat :) 2. We might be asked to vacate our table if there are heaps of people waiting. Julian's is a nice place though with good food so I'd be more than up for it. Might be smart to make a reservation once we have a good idea how many people are coming.
One thing we could do is go to a bar afterwards, E&O possibly or The Avery, which are both nearby.

That is true, Kattullus, though they have been opening up the back area recently, which has made the place a bit less crowded, even on peak nights.

Y'all would be probably wise to get a reservation at Julian's, possibly specifying that it's provisional. I showed up once with a party of 12 and they were absolutely fabulous about it, but it was on a Thursday and they were slow... but anyway, they advised STRONGLY that reservations be made.
Also: bring cash dudes, they don't split checks.

Hmmm ... alright, well, once we've got a good idea as to how many of us there'll be, I'll swing by there and let the Julian's folks know.

I haven't been to one either, but I bring an opera mask painted like a MeFi administrator and a bucket of dry ice everywhere anyway. I can totally loan you one!

Dag, I will be busy that weekend, otherwise I'd definitely be there! Maybe next time. And I'll sell admin-face-masks, too: $8 for a mathowie, $6 for a jess or cortex, $4 for pb or vacapinta. All proceeds go to the cabal for those meetings where they have a 200-foot jumbotron and hold on that's the door...

I don't know, 3 blocks is a bit of a hike...
Citrus, I think all 3 of the RI mefighters know about this now. I guess we could get some of the mefight Massholes though. (yeah, massholes, I wrote that)
Hooray for Mulp leaving the East side, welcome to the good part of town!

And I wasn't on the east side ... I was down by Eagle Square over in the Mt. Pleasant area.
Man, I have to get back to TF2, at some point. I've lately been consumed by work and Spore. And Odin Sphere for the PS2.

Depending on how well I pace/budget my drinking (while still avoiding the sometimes inevitably inexpensive flow of Gansett), I'll probably still be around after 9.

Okay, if I'm counting this right the following MeFites, besides myself and The Great Big Mulp, will be definitely attending:
lunit
lunit's lurker friend (not actual username)
sgt.serenity
hugecranium
Here are the maybes (any of you have a better idea whether you'll be joining us or not?):
CitrusFreak12
Rock Steady
biblio
Ryvar
Uppity Pigeon #2
So, according to my trusty calculatatronometerer, that makes for 6-11 people.
