A spaceship landed in my yard and my son was abducted, how do i repair the burnt grass? September 27, 2008 2:12 PM   Subscribe

I think the question is fine, but it does remind me a bit of this.

It's not that he spent a night in jail, it's that he can't Use The Internets to find information as basic as declaring a string array in the most-used language of all time.

Call a lawyer and make sure the hispanic gentlemen repairing your lawn have the appropriate documentation.

Huzzah, now we can close this garbage up. Don't mock people just because their honest question has some easily-ignorable irrelevant bits in it; it makes you look like a shitheel and discourages people from using the resource.

It's only similar to that jokey advice column if you consider his having trespassed and been in jail to be the major problem he should be addressing. Which it doesn't necessarily have to be... it could have been a one time thing, entered a plea of guilty, and served his time. Case closed.

He could have mentioned it here because he doesn't want to ask his prof or classmates, and have to answer the "So... why weren't you there when we covered this?" questions.

This is a lame callout and not particularly funny.

Any educator knows that *everyone* has different learning styles: kinesthetic, visual, experiential, etc. In this case, the OP probably has a verbal learning style - he has to talk it out, rather than looking for something he doesn't even know he should looking for (how do you do that?) on teh Intertubes.

Perfectly reasonable use of AskMe.

UbuRoivas, if I objected to the call-out because I thought the AskMe's wording wasn't funny and everyone who thought so was a bad, bad person, I would have said that. While you're completely entitled to respond to something I've said, I'll send you a MeMail if I ever need you to speak on my behalf. I apologize for my cranky tone, but that FTFY shit is annoying even when it isn't being used to completely misrepresent what the quoted person said or to paint them as a humourless prig.

My point stands; this is inappropriate, pointless and nonconstructive, and while I don't think muddylemon's intention was malicious, it's still a crap MeTa posted at the expense of someone who didn't do anything wrong.

Alvy, forgive my crankiness, too. Tired & hung over here. I just thought muddylemon didn't deserve to be jumped on.

Yeah, I should have toned down my first comment - not hungover, but very tired here. Sorry about that, muddylemon.

I missed this AskMe the first time around because I was making pizza. I put on sausage, fresh tomato, olives and banana peppers all topped off with grated Monterey Jack. So thanks for the link.

This seems a little like a callout and I'm not really sure what's callout-worthy if you're not sort of making fun of the guy, so okay if I close this up?
