NYC, first round on me October 5, 2008 2:19 PM   Subscribe

New York I love you, but you're bringing me down... because you don't have any meetups scheduled. We can fix this.

Any interest in a meetup on Friday, Oct. 17, or Saturday, Oct. 18? In all my sidebar-watching time on MeTa, I don't think I've ever seen a time when there was no New York meetup listed in the "recent" or "upcoming" sections.

I'll be working near City Hall, and staying LES, but I'm pretty flexible as to where we go and what we do. I'm more than happy to defer to locals on the details. I must admit, though, that Katz's is a highly convenient (and tasty) location for a meet-up to end, as far as I'm concerned.

If that weekend doesn't work, do NY MeFites do weeknight meet-ups? I'm in Manhattan from now through Nov. 8, but my weekends are pretty limited. Other than the coming week, mid-week is cool too.

Friday the 17th sounds fun. And I haven't been to Katz's in forever, so a trip to get the pastrami back in my blood is fine by me.

The 17th works for me, jubu. As for large, neutral drinking zones, we often do Revival, HiFi was pretty accommodating, and I've always thought Bua on St. Marks would be good for a meetup, though probably only on a weeknight.

We haven't been to Revival in forever- I think we should go there, I am missig it so.

I can hit Revival. Probably.

If James Murphy is coming, I am totally down.

Revival, Friday Oct. 17. Sounds good to me. What time do these shindigs usually go down?
posted by jewishbuddha at 6:52 PM on October 5, 2008

I have met jewishbuddha and I highly recommend meeting up with him. If I were in NY I would go. Have fun.

On Fridays, I feel like we start somewhere around 7, 7:30?

Sounds good. I will try to make it.

Wow! I might have to make the trip up on the chinatown bus to catch jubu on the right coast (for a change).

Ooh, I can actually come to this one.

Um, as long as you guys are ok with me doing there what I do on the site- ie, contributing practically nothing and lurking in the corner, quietly judging you all.
posted by Dormant Gorilla at 8:49 AM on October 6, 2008

Hey Dormant Gorilla, I'll fight you for corner space.
posted by amicamentis at 9:00 AM on October 6, 2008

Aw I'll be away that weekend.
posted by rmless at 9:34 AM on October 6, 2008

Ok- I'll sit facing the wall and you can sit facing out, and hiss if anyone comes near.

Sorry juddha, my schedule's a mess until Halloween.
posted by Smart Dalek at 12:16 PM on October 6, 2008

ok. Let's make it official. Friday October 17 at 7:30pm at Revival.

(I can't post to the official sidebar because, oddly, I have no access to a device with flash at home of work at the moment, and that is a requirement of the add meetup page. Anyone want to lend a hand?)

Hmmm, I had problems too until the week my initial post ended.

I'll be in Chicago that weekend....which is a shame, since this time a hurricane wouldn't have stopped me, considering how close to home this place is. Enjoy!
posted by Grither at 5:34 AM on October 7, 2008

I will really be there this time.

I'll give my usual yes and hope nothing messes it up this time.

Grither - I'll be in Chicago then as well... next time I guess.

Looks like I might be bookending my week with meetups. I'm trying to get up to Boston this weekend, before winter hits and the daytime high is two degrees.

I'll try to make it, Revival is nice.

Any way to see whether there's going to be a wedding there?

Any way to see whether there's going to be a wedding there?

That was the greatest night.
We should start scanning the society columns to see if any good ones are coming up. We just missed the Howard Stern wedding. Now that would have been a hoot.
posted by HotPatatta at 7:55 PM on October 13, 2008

I too will try to make it, and maybe bring a wedding party along with me.
posted by zoomorphic at 11:05 AM on October 14, 2008

If there aren't any wedding parties around, the wedding party's food and drink would suffice...
posted by amicamentis at 1:56 PM on October 14, 2008

Let's get hitched and make this our wedding party, zoomorphic! (I could really use the tax break right about now.)

Goddam it, I live six blocks from Revival but that's my poker night. Next time!

HP, do you have health insurance? What about EU citizenship. If so, I think I'm in love.
posted by zoomorphic at 4:59 PM on October 16, 2008

Full coverage, zoo: medical, dental, vision, you name it. As far as the EU citizenship goes, I don't have it. Ahh, but I am a member of the Sierra Club and a cheese of the month club.
Please tell me you own a DVD player, a bicycle, or, at the very least, a subscription to the New Yorker; after all, you need to bring something to the table.
posted by HotPatatta at 5:16 PM on October 16, 2008

Hey everyone, I'll be going to this Mexican wrestleing art thing nearby:

"Please join us for the Luchadores Match!!!, Friday, October 17th, 7pm. studios is located at 202 Rivington Street (between Ridge
and Pitt Streets)"

I'll poke my head into Revival after to see if anyone is still there. The event should be pretty nutty, but i do not want to step on the meetup by urging folks to check it out.

But mefimail me if you want more info.
posted by vrakatar at 8:10 PM on October 16, 2008

Yes, yes, and yes. Throw in a toolbox and I'll call the caterers.
posted by zoomorphic at 5:03 AM on October 17, 2008

Could someone post an address for Revival? I want to come, but don't know where y'all are going to be!
posted by EmpressCallipygos at 8:22 AM on October 17, 2008

Boy howdy are my Google fingers in fine condition! Revival's info is here, and is located at 129 E. 15th St., New York, NY 10003, near Irving Plaza.
posted by zoomorphic at 9:19 AM on October 17, 2008

I'm excited - particularly about visiting two classic meetup locations I haven't been in awhile, Revival and Katz's (mmmm, pastrami).
