SXSW 2002 meetup

So, SXSW 2002. Who's going? Maybe it would be a good time for a MetaFilter gathering?

I'll be there, speaking on a panel about communtiy (unfortunately scheduled at the same time as Meg's weblog/journalism panel). I'm not the biggest fan of large gatherings at sxsw. The last two years has shown me it's pretty much impossible to share conversations with 50 people at once, and the best times I had there was when I was hanging out in groups of less than 7 or 8 people. Feel free to come up to me and talk in the hallways, I'll be around the whole week this year.

If you live in the Bay Area, I will not be going to SXSW and will happily take care of your cats, so long as you leave a little beer or fresh fruit in the fridge.

Alas, "chicken" is the closest thing to "vegetables" that the Salt Lick offers. Or maybe really, really lean brisket.

There are (despite reports to the contrary) a variety of vegetarian options in Austin (which tries really, really hard not to be considered part of "Texas" (while also being it's capital--this place is an enigma))

I'd be happy to recommend several vegetarian options (and a few pancake joints) or you can check out this blast from the past.

From The Salt Lick Menu:
Vegetable Plate . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $6.95
potato salad, cole slaw, beans, bread, pickles, and onions.

Keep in mind that all of this is served inside of what is basically a smokehouse. It's an open pit barbecue place, so even if you don't eat the meat, you'll smell like ribs for the next day or so. Prob'ly not the best Vegetarian option.

Thanks, Coldchef, for standing up for an upstanding city. I love Austin, even though I've never lived there, but i went to school in Waco, just short of an hour north, and fell in love with the city until it started being too corporate, i.e. the Silicon Valley of the south (is that blasphemy on MeTa?)

Feel free to come up to me and talk in the hallways, I'll be around the whole week this year.

Any chance you can give us a schedule, matt? 6th street can be hell, especially during sxsw, and it'd be nice to know if i was there if i could look for you.

I love Austin. Shopping! Hate the traffic. Have driver(husband), will travel. Time and place(The Salt Lick is good!)?

I live in a house about three miles north of downtown Austin, if anyone needs a place to stay - (note that I'm NOT offering this to SXSW musicians any more, but a blogger or two should be perfectly harmless). At any rate - free bedroom of your very own, in return for showering me in the golden rays of your mighty blogging fame and charisma...

Anyone who gawks and points at me without coming up to say hi and introduce themselves will be, themselves, summarily ridiculed and forced to buy everyone a round of drinks. It's the SXSW way.

i just received the latest mailer and it has peer to peer journalism and design for community part 2 in different time slots. perhaps the web site is out of date... and then again, perhaps the mailer is wrong.

The mailer should be correct, Hugh told me he was going to reschedule one of the sessions since we assumed there'd be some audience overlap. I guess the website hasn't been updated yet.
