Is MetaFilter down for everybody else? January 23, 2002 12:57 PM   Subscribe

Is MetaFilter down for everybody else. I've been getting host not found errors all morning. I know Matt was planning to move his name server box. I'm just wondering if something in that process got hosed. If it is down, is it still available via an IP address -> I couldn't seem to find that either.

It should work itself out in the next 24 hours or so. I changed the nameservers on the domain twice, the interim one didn't seem to work, so I changed it a second time. Once your local DNS servers pick up the second change, everything should be working again.

Whew. I thought it was just me :)

I couldn't get here either, until I looked up the IP.

For the interim, if you want to add the IP to your hosts file, it's 209.10.108.201, according to Visual Route, which must be correct since I'm here. I am here, right?

I've been having trouble too-- both at home and at work. I can't reach the site by name or by the IP. The only way I can reach MeFi is from my remote web host (very remote-- I'm on the East coast and it's in Texas)-- using Lynx. Well, I guess I'm a MeFi addict to resort to Lynx and breathe a sigh of relief to reach the server at all. (Looks pretty decent too!)

Well, it's working again from the office. Whew. I was afraid I'd have to work today.

Still can't read MeFi at work. *Dang!* Must mean something.
Maybe I'm being smart filtered, too. I'll try notalentassclown tomorrow. Maybe I should just work. Sigh.

Yeah, well, it's only for the DSL elite for now--I only got here because I came up to the cybercafe where I have my email account--it's pretty obvious from the fewer posts and comments on the front page.

bschoate: I had the same problem and solution for the last two days myself - living in the SF Bay Area, Lynxing in from a server in Texas. I'm rather glad I wasn't the only one. :-)

I have not been able to access MF for 3 days and then this morning I could with my usual bookmark, and I could see that there were plenty of posts from those days that I could not get in. . .not that I felt excluded from the fun but it's weird.

It's been a loooong 48 hours without MeFi. I guess it really is more addictive than crack. But I'm back now. Funny thing is, I live & work in the SF Bay Area but I could only access it from home. Makes me wish I knew more about how the internet backbone works.

Stuck in a hotel room thousands of miles from home with no MeFi... I barely made it out alive. We'll still have to see about "sane."
