Giga-meetup at 3.171 nano-Herz?

Could someone remind us all what may be in the works for the Fin de Cycle at that frequency?

Well, it's a little late, if so. How about the 001010th Anniversary plans?

I'm exactly as clever as I think I am. Sadly, I'm exactly as smart as I think I am, too.

Pretty sure there will be a NOLA 10th aniversary meetup, sometime in July. We're talking dates and locations but likely not going to make anything fixed until post-holidaytime. That okay?
posted by jessamyn (staff) at 12:31 PM on December 24, 2008

w00t! Hopefully all of us from the NOLA 9th Anniversary satellite meetup will be there to talk about how this isn't as cool as the last one was, and how you all really should have been there.

*checks possible plans for celebration of the 10th Anniversary of Metafilter*

1.) Milwaukee meetup.

or

2.) Retire to a fortified bunker, watch a few hours of Simon & Simon reruns before drinking a glass of Bulleit, and activating the doomsday device* I've been working on in my spare time.

Either one sounds like a pretty good plan.

*: doomsday device may contain some radioactive materials, high-powered optics, and an advanced lithium power-source. It may destroy the known universe, or put a small red dot on my wall. I think it depends on whether or not I was reading the Laser-pointer or the Super-Singularity schematic when I was building it. I honestly don't remember.

Cabal members are reminded to use human-readable date formats when posting on MetaFilter1.

There is no Cabal.

Wouldn't a multi-city electronically patched together 10th anniversary celebration make more sense, with like live webcams and webcasts and chicks and guns and fire engines (Ok maybe sccratch the last two), but think about it.

What are the plans for the Euro people? Having just one gig, deep in the fucking United States, just doesn't seem right.

I would move heaven and earth (or at the very least, my physical body) to be there. Looking forward to it!

Oh yes, please, this! Except unscratch the fire engines. Please, sirs and madam, don't make me buy a ticket to NOLA. I am poor. And there's a recession.

How about this - we have a big meetup in NOLA. Everyone who can come will come. Anyone who cannot come can take part in simultaneous meetups elsewhere. Webcams should be involved.

But I really really want to have a big meetup where everyone who can make it tries to show up. I want to meet all of you! Even the ones that I've argued with. Especially the ones that I've argued with.

AND I'M GOING TO GET MY T-SHIRT SIGNED!!!!!

I'm pretty sure that's the plan. I had a good time on US election day getting to chitchat with the folks in London (I think?) as stuff unfolded.

You think it was London? Damn straight it was London - the Mefi London TV and chat channel! We used Ustream.tv and it worked reasonably well, other than for the lack of sound; by next summer it'll be even better.

Yeah, StickyCarpet's heart was in the right place, but I hope that once the meetup is officially announced, we can start a new thread - just so that people know what the crap we're talking about.

NOLA + Amsterdam satellite looks like a good plan. I will be the cruise director and will be happy to hurl myself into planning this slightly later and we'll announce it and promote it in all the pseudo-official ways.

That's the point of the weak wording. Leave room to build, for a more dramatic climax.

If, like stav, you're wondering where NOLA is, it's here. Contrary to this comment's framing, it is not an isolated and sovereign nation floating in the air somewhere. It's in LA, Americia.

Oooh, I missed this thread because of its cryptic opening post, and only found it because I thought it was time we started planning our tenth anniversary and wanted to see if there'd been any recent mention of it.

I'm going to make every effort to go to the main 10th anniversary meetup, wherever it is. New Orleans in July isn't my dream getaway, but at least it's some place new I've never been.
