I'm going to be up in Amsterdam next weekend and was wondering if anyone's around for a slightly last minute meetup on the Friday.

"I'm allergic to any kind of smoke. Can we borrow one of the vapourizers from the house?"
"You people shouldn't be doing that stuff at all, you know. It's addictive and gives you brain damage."
"Would you care for a Plate of Beans?"
"Christ, what an asshole."
"OK, Take it to MetaMeetups, stat!"

I don't know Amsterdam terribly well, living in the south as I do. Generally Mefi meetups do best in not-too-crowded but still decent pubs. Any recommendations or should I strike out and pick one at random?

Well, I won't be there, but you could try the "traditional" Amsterdam meetup cafe, Pacific Parc, or perhaps the IJsbreker next to the Amstel, or the Traffic or Van Zanten (50 meters/yards apart), a bit out of the center. All decent places where you can drink good beer and have a normal conversation.
